Stilton, walnut and pear quiche ??

Would you eat this, having a dinner party tonight and I have she'd loads of cheese, so want to try and use some of it it up? But a few friends have said eewww with eggs involved?

I'd politely refuse that tbh. I hate all three ingredients. I do love a bog standard cheddar and onion quiche though with beans and chips :o

Stilton and walnut I get, but it's the pear with egg that I'm wondering about? It'd probably taste great but would the pear go all soggy?

Quiche, chips, must be homemade and beans with cheese on tops is the NUTSi tell ya!

Thankyou, now off to start prepping and drinking a small large wine to help me relax with the inlaws! Coming to tea with another 8 people so 14 in total

Bloody day of the week birthday, should be LAW to be birthdays on a weekend only!

I'm sure it sounds nice to people who like to eat cheese with loads of mould in but I'm not one of them! I'd check your guests like stilton - I couldn't even try to eat it to be polite!

Absolutely NO to the pear. Pear in a quiche? Are you crazy?

I know that cheese, nuts and pears go well in a salad.

But NOT, repeat NOT in a quiche!

Don't put the pear in, but serve it as a compote type of thing along side the quiche.

That's a salad not a quiche. No I wouldn't eat that but I don't like Stilton :)

Oh no, too much squidgy-ness and too rich with the eggs and stilton. Do it as a tart instead - crumble the stilton over a sheet of puff pastry, lay the pears on top all fancy like in straight lines and then scatter the walnuts on top when it comes out.

I would eat it, sounds nice. But also would be nice served with a side salad which contained the pear.

Does anyone remember Zena Skinner, a Delia Smith in black and white television days? She had a cooking programme and was at a loss once for something to finish a programme with. My husband, who was in publicity at the time, suggested cheese on toast with finely sliced pear under the cheese. It became very popular so there's nothing odd about having pear with cheese.

As for using Stilton cheese, its flavour just enhances the flavour of a quiche (and for those with an egg phobia, all quiches have egg in them). You do not taste the explicit flavour of blue cheese.

I've had a tart/quichey thing with stilton and pear in before, and it was really nice. The pears were tender but firm, no squidgyness.

I had just this at a restaurant last week as an amuse bouche (would have never ordered it alone), but it was blue cheese and pear quiche and it was fabulous. Just go easy on the cheese since it does tend to overwhelm the delicate pear flavor.

Stilton in a quiche is overpowering...you can only put a tiny amount in, believe me i've learnt the hard way by trying to use left over christmas stilton in quiches. It just isn't that nice.

I agree with Flouncy, do a stilton, pear and walnut salad instead. Chuck it all together with a nice selection of salad leaves and drizzle some walnut oil over the top. It's a nice light starter and will leave plenty of room for the main course

I like pear, but not in a savoury environment.

Stilton & walnuts are the devil's foods.

It's my nightmare dinner party dish tbh

I sometimes make a very similar salad - stilton, walnuts and grapes on mixed leaves with a vinaigrette. I'm not sure about all those things plus egg though, think that would be too many competing flavours. The tart sounds a good alternative - you could toast the walnuts separately with a bit of butter before scattering.

I know loads of people who don't like walnuts, and there must be loads who don't like blue cheese also. It's a risky dish for a supper party, I think (although I'm biased). A quiche would be great but maybe gruyere & bacon, or broccoli & salmon?
on my knees, begging you not to feed people stilton and walnuts
