To really wonder about the comperes on tv.

You know, the voices between the programmes? Well do these people sit in a room Andy Crane style, like The Broomcupboard and watch all the programmes live as they go out and announce stuff between?

Do they push he buttons to make the programmes happen?

What do they look like?

Are these people the unsung heroes of broadcasting? We know their voices but we don't even know their names! Who ARE these people?

AIBU that this has bothered me for years but I've never really been able o find answers.

I remember when they were real people, in dinner suits at lunch time doing wonderful, RP intro's. Ah those were the days

YANBU! I always wonder if its live & what they do in between if it is. Also, how much do they get paid.

They don't watch the programmes as they go out live. IIRC they sit in a booth near the transmission suite for the channel, they have the programme times and listings and will have all the information they need.

I wonder what some of them are taking - one female (think it was channel 5, say no more) was doing the link and was commenting on the programme just finishing, saying something along the lines of 'ooh what's that (character's name) like? Ooh he's well lush!'. What?? Just tell us what's on next and shut up. And stop talking over the end credits!
