Boiler is ancient, cant afford new one just yet. But around 7 pm i could smell a burning smell (like a leccy heater was on) Coming from boiler, I just walked in there about ten mins ago and could very strongly smell a gas burning smell. So I have switched it all off and rung the 0800 gas emergency number someone is coming out. DH thinks Im being silly :(

I think it was the soot from Flue pipe burning that I was smelling.

DH is humbled. But still trying to shrug it off. I think he's trying to save face cos hes normally so panicky about these things.

Thanks DragonMamma, Rhonnda way?

I asked Gas Engineer why detector didnt go off (paid a lot for it cos we have such an old boiler!) and he said only small amounts were escaping up to that point but once lots of poison was in the air it would have detected it and gone off. We were lucky most of the carbon monoxide was still going up the small area not blocked in the flue.

We have had been suffering headaches for a while and I have had a dry tickly irritating throat and cough! Wonder if its related x

My BIL is a gas engineer in South Wales. Trust me, you have done the right thing.

If a red-headed engineer turns up....
