To ask for advice re birthday night out

Nornironmum · 18/01/2013 22:37

It's dh's 30th birthday tomorrow. He has never had a party even as a child. We booked a cheap Chinese with a function room with karaoke ( I know some people's idea of a nightmare but we love it) and wanted to keep it as cheap as possible. Booked for 30 people paid £150 non refundable deposit, have got a massive cake baked costing £60 got balloons etc.
Anyway the snow is very bad here, not sure if anyone can go.
We have babysitter etc sorted and we rarely ever get out But I feel bad asking people to come out in this weather and maybe not get home again.
If I cancel I loose the money, I texted everyone and said we would be going but not to worry if they can't make it, even if a few of us go, we will still manage to eat and drink the deposit. But am I unreasonable to not cancel completely and am I putting people under pressure by not doing so?

No I don't think people feel under pressure to go to parties if there's travel disruption...and you did the right thing in sending the text.

I hope lots of people turn up though.

HollyBerryBush · 18/01/2013 22:46

Any hope that the restaurant will be closed because the staff cant get in, or they cant get any stock deliveries?

AgentZigzag · 18/01/2013 22:49

I'm all excited for him Grin (and you Grin) (so long as he hasn't had a party before because he would rather stick pins in his eyes Shock)

But I would just leave it up to the guests to decide whether they're willing to brave the weather or not.

Even if nobody turns up it'd still be quite romantic if it was just you two, and if a few can make it it'll be intimate and you can still have a laugh.

Nornironmum · 18/01/2013 22:50

No I rang them its a city centre location they will be opened no matter what. No chance of refunds but I'm sure dj and I could eat and drink our money's worth

On the bright side...

If no-one turns up you're going to have one hell of a chinese doggy bag to take home Grin

SashaSashays · 18/01/2013 22:53

Don't cancel, might be a laugh even if its just a few of you.

Side note: he's never had a party?! How Sad

Nornironmum · 18/01/2013 23:00

I know shasa and he really deserves one. He had worked so hard and done so well, a brill dad and an amazing dh. Literally worked his way from nothing even working 2 jobs for years. I want to celebrate his 30 years.
The weather forecast for here said bad snow over night but none tomorrow. The snow will freeze though but we don't live in the country or anything and I'm hoping main roads are ok

OP posts:
SashaSashays · 18/01/2013 23:05

Our main roads are fine and I think that people will probably be looking to go out tomorrow night. I imagine they will have been in tonight and tomorrow day time and if it doesn't snow badly tomorrow they might be up for venturing out. I know I'm going to be bored as hell by this time tomorrow.

katiecubs · 18/01/2013 23:07

YADNBU - hope you have a fab time and that some of the others make it too :)

AgentZigzag · 18/01/2013 23:07

If you weren't worrying about the weather you'd be worrying about something else Smile

Giving a party for someone you care about is stressful, it'll be fine whatever happens.

blonderthanred · 18/01/2013 23:09

That sounds lovely as do you. Hope a few people turn up and you have a brilliant time.

juniper904 · 18/01/2013 23:09

I'll come!

Pancakeflipper · 18/01/2013 23:11

I wanna go too...

Hope you have a fun night.

AgentZigzag · 18/01/2013 23:17

'Hope you have a fun night.'

I read that as 'Hope you have a bun fight' Grin

RL parties and MN coming together in my head Grin

Nornironmum · 18/01/2013 23:17

Thanks everyone I bought new shoes and everything.
We hardly get out, esp not together so I was really looking forward to it.
I think even if there is no more snow some people will not go as they were just looking an excuse anyway being janurary etc. but I'm hoping enough go so that we can still have the function room as Dh has his whole Karakoe repotaire planned. Me too lol

Ooh what songs you gonna do?!

wigglesrock · 18/01/2013 23:23

If your username Grin indicates where you from you should be alright Grin I didn't think it was supposed to be that bad here tomorrow. Go, have a fab time, please sing some Meatloaf for me Blush. I guarantee you will have some guests - we're a hearty people.

Of course if your username is just a fluke above means nothing and I just look like a dick Grin

Nornironmum · 18/01/2013 23:29
