My df fantasises about a 50" tv - thankfully we can't afford one - personally 32" is perfect.

How big is it?

I feel your pain - dh bought a MASSIVE telly about 15 years ago before people had massive tellies. I was angry about the cost and it took up haf the front room as they weren't think like they are now, it was about 2.5 feet thick as well!!!!

I was SO pleased when it blew up, it lasted tears though, fecking thing!

mrsjay · 16/01/2013 16:12

We have a very very old very heavy telly ..... We also have a projector and a white blackout blind..... dh Can get it to 92 "

He likes to play cod and I like to lie ony bed and read :)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 16/01/2013 16:12

On the strength of the other big telly thread I went and had a look at the 55" which was the bone of contention. It's fuck off massive. Then I looked at our teeny 32" in comparison in the shop and it looked like a portable :o

firesidechat · 16/01/2013 16:17

Definitely ltb.

In his perfect world my husband would love to do this, but we have a great system to deal with it. He wants one, I say no.

Seriously though, we talk about big purchases like this and reach a friendly compromise. Telly is 36".

Wanting bigger and better technology is a man thing.

mrsjay · 16/01/2013 16:20

I knew he was talking about a 3d telly and tbh it wasnt the price he got a bargain but it is so big for my tiny livingroom he was talking wall brackets I had a cats bum face so he stopped talking

I watched TV on my friend's massive HD telly and it wasn't very nice. The definition was so good that everything looked awful. Could see every wrinkle and pock mark. And even movies looked like they'd been filmed on a video camera. Like the general lighting on Eastenders... they didn't look like proper movies.

quirrelquarrel · 16/01/2013 16:42

My parents have one which is about say 12 inches across. It's white and from the 80s and perfect!
Don't like big TVs. Don't have anything myself, just a laptop to watch DVDs on.

Snorbs · 16/01/2013 16:48

I've got a friend with a 55" TV and it makes sense for him as, due to the shape of the room it's in, everyone sits bloody miles away from the thing. In my poky little front room such a big fuck-off TV would look ridiculous and the glare would probably leave you with a tan.

valiumredhead · 16/01/2013 16:53

Mine is 42 but looks fine in our front room as it's a big room - I hate big tellies but this is the right size for the room.

I don't like HD, I don't want to see actors' spots and blemishes thank you very much!

freddiefrog · 16/01/2013 17:05

If I had a £1 for every argument we'd ever had over bloody televisions I'd be extremely rich.

I hate massive, overpoweringly huge tellies but the bigger the better in DH's world.

DH spent hours trying to convince me we need a 3D HD tv before Christmas. We only watch stuff like Corrie on it. We never really watch films so I don't see the point. Apparently, you can 'count the blades of grass' on football matches. Riiiight, he's really selling it to me

The tv we have is perfectly fine. End of.

mrsjay · 16/01/2013 17:07

the last tv was 38 and was fine maybe i will get used to this 1
