To think the dr needs to give me something for this.

Was ill a few months back with D&V, all ok recovered from the bug fairly quickly, expect I could keep any foods in my tummy long enough.

So started with white goods, then added a few bits here nd their, then got another bug, and so it started again, but this time my tummy has a mind of its own, one day I can eat fish, the next I can't or I avoid it and try something else and then a few days later, it happened again.

Dr says its my "algra rhyme" and will soon settle down.

Fine, but I've now lost about 7 days work, (work with food, so hence being sent home).

There is medicine I can have to stop the bloating, nausea, stomach cramps, but he likes it to be natural and try's and avoids drugs for it.

So been sent home again today, other than the tummy thing I am healthy, and I can't afford to take anymore days off, nor is it fair on my employers.

White goods?

WTF is algra rhyme?

Andro · 16/01/2013 13:04

Get a second opinion if you're worried.

AltinkumATEalltheTurkey · 16/01/2013 13:08

My stomach has lost the rhyme to digest the foods, as in the way it turns I think, its temporary, well apparently 2 months + now.

Second opinion sounds good.

Your doctor sounds like a quack.

soontobeburns · 16/01/2013 13:13

Yep you should def. Get something YANBU.

Could you get in to see another doctor?

ginmakesitallok · 16/01/2013 13:33

Go and see another doctor, yours sounds bonkers.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 16/01/2013 13:52

Your stomach doesn't have a rhyme and there is no such thing as algra rhyme. What sort of doctor do you have?

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 16/01/2013 13:56

Sounds all very ridiculous. Go and see a doctor who knows what he or she is talking about.

AnyFucker · 16/01/2013 13:56

Is this a witch doctor you have consulted ? Confused

Or one of them homeopathic ones that amounts to the same thing ?

AnyFucker · 16/01/2013 13:56

I have certainly never heard a dodgy stomach compared to a malfunctioning washing machine Hmm

AnyFucker · 16/01/2013 13:58

I suggest you ask for a test to see if you have helicobacter pylori, see here

Iamsparklyknickers · 16/01/2013 14:00

Do you think he meant algorithm?

Not a very clear way of saying that your digestive system is still recovering and has some of it's efficiency?

I would guess your dr doesn't want to stop your systems natural recovery by introducing meds, but I also don't think your request for them should be turned down after this long.

Out of interest, how would your work place deal with someone with ibs? It's not contagious, so as long as your not actually 'ill' I don't see why you can't work?

(Oh and I'm not medically trained in any way so all of the above couldbe complete horseshit!)

Iamsparklyknickers · 16/01/2013 14:01

lost some efficiency I should say!

ilikefestivitea · 16/01/2013 14:04

I've never heard of "algra rhyme". bur I always thought that after a severe bout of d&v, depending on the bug that caused it, it can cause IBS like symptoms for a while afterwards while the gut recovers from the inflammation and replaces all the good bacteria that was lost, so your GP may not be talking complete rubbish.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 16/01/2013 14:11

I wonder if the doctor is suggesting you have an gut motility problem i.e the muscles that normally rhythmically move the food along the gut are not working as effectively as normal.

AnyFucker · 16/01/2013 14:13

Yup, and there are perfectly effective meds for that (and HP) that do not interfere with "natural rhythms" of anything at all

ENormaSnob · 16/01/2013 14:15

Wtaf? Hmm

Your dr is a normal gmc registered one?

AltinkumATEalltheTurkey · 16/01/2013 17:14

Dr is a normal dr,
I've asked for another appointement with another dr, and hopefully fingers crossed, will be able to get something for it.

There is a member of staff with IBS, sickness and IBS is entirely different.
