Mice are so cute, but I don't want them in my kitchen either. Once u have cleaned up buy some pure peppermint oil and leave cotton wool balls soaked in the oil all around your kitchen where the mice are likely to bee ie behind cupboards and units. They hate the smell and will never come back while they can smell mint. Don't let the kids get it tho, the oil is v strong and will sting eyes etc.

I'm sure they bite? don't they...?

I had pet mice for years. One bit me once, I was holding her, she didn't want to be held, she gave me a little nip and I still held her so she bit.

I don't think you are going to be holding a mouse are you?

cozietoesie · 15/01/2013 07:35

Mice may be cute but they can also play havoc with electrical wiring. Get some traps, OP.

Mytwobeautifulgirls · 15/01/2013 08:07

yep thabks everyone I'm definitely heading to the 99p store to grab some traps. I didn't know mice liked to eat flour

And I hate to be the one to mention it first but the chances of you having a mouse are slim.

PickleSarnie · 15/01/2013 08:10

"that beast"?

Sorry to break it to you, but its likely to be "those beasts". Not that they are beasts, just tiny, incontinent, mice.

Bacon sewed onto traps works well. Glue traps are hideously inhumane and poison will just result in slowly decomposing mice stuck behind your cooker.

sashh · 15/01/2013 08:10

Mice eat anything.

They like pasta, but for traps nutella or peanut butter are good.

I feel your pain - we had one last week I didn't know whether to scream or cry. Got a trap the next day, it worked and no sign of any since. The amount of cleaning and disinfecting we had to do after nearly made me weep again!

Mytwobeautifulgirls · 15/01/2013 08:56

that's what I can't understand I'm quiet ocd with cleaning gte kitchen I dettol my kitchen near on 4 x a day. and definitely a big old deep clean is in order.

Get some pet rats, they keep pests away!

I feel your pain, OP! We had mice last year in our kitchen. I always seemed to spot them running across the floor when DP was out - the first time I saw one I had a bit of a panic attack and locked myself in the bedroom Blush and DP was about 3 hours away. I am really scared of mice, it's probably quite silly but doesn't make me any less scared Grin

DP put a lot of cotton wool soaked in peppermint oil around the kitchen to fill up all the massive gaps that were around. We moved all our food, made sure that our kitchen was always spotless...but they kept coming in as we'd missed a hole behind the washing machine.

We don't live there anymore (not because of the mice, I must add!) and havent for almost a year but I still live in fear of anything crawling across the kitchen Grin

The upside is that I'm no longer scared of spiders!
