In a really forced over exaggerated, dramatic "look at me coughing" manner, but with his mouth open and I ask him to cover his mouth, he shouldn't tell me to "shut up"?

Sounds like there's more going on OP? But you're right, telling you to shut up is shitty when you just don't want someone coughing on you.
