I mean ffs can't they make them bloody bounce. One bigtiny fall on wooden floor and they are buggered.

DD's lasted about 3 days until the toddler threw it. DS2's lasted about a week longer until it was sat on and DS1 is now in tears as his has just smashed on the floor when I grabbed it out of his hand cos he was'nt listening to me as usual.

I bought them so they would'nt keep arguing over the laptop. SHIT!

How old are your children? It sounds like they are way too young for such expensive gadgets. I assume you are not going to replace them.

Toddlers break things so you keep.them out if reach.

Accidents do.happen but to.break three? Tablets since xmas? Suggests maybe more care needs to.be taken.

Eek. This is why I will never buy dd anything that expensive until I know she can take care of them.

My poor iPad has been dropped more than once onto a wooden floor (by me)- thankfully it has a good quality cover so it has never broken.

The children - whatever age they are - are not allowed ot walk around with it - if they want to use it they have to be sitting.

You can buy tough cases that will protect tablets if they are dropped, even onto concrete. I don't know if they protect from being sat on though.

Goodness. 5yo DD1 has been using various iPads and iPhones since she was a year and has never broken one. She knows to be incredibly careful with it or it's withdrawn. She wouldn't get near them if she behaved like that and she's known that since she was tiny.

Agree with iPad. They aren't toys. My 3 guard their xmas tablets with their lives, though I agree we don't have a toddler around.
If your teens are sitting on gadgets etc then maybe the beds the experience to learn to take care of their things more.

On a positive note, do you have accidental damage on household contents insurance? Claiming for 3 in onego should at least make the excess a lowish proportion of the total. And I'd you don't have it, maybe take it our for the next batch of gadgets they get!

Still thinking about replacements. Probably would'nt claim on insurance as premium will go up. DC are 11, 11 and 16 and the toddler is 2.

They were all provided with cases that they could keep them in when using them and which would have protected them but they never kept them in them. DD previously had a laptop which lasted 3 months and a blackberry which lasted one month (luckily we took insurance with the contract).

Why should her kids not have tablets regardless of their age? We are in 2012, it is good for children to grow up knowing how to use the technology that is a massive part of our lives.
Op I agree, the glass breaks too easily. I'm sure apple are capable of developing non smash glass. Most adults have broken the screen on their iPad/phone at some point.

Wow you people jump on people quickly dont you.... I'm a fully grown responsible careful adult and even I have dropped my phone off the sofa and smashed it before... These things happen.
If you have wooden or tiled floors its a nightmare, even dropping a childs plastic toy can smash it. There are tablets specifically made for children, my ds has a toddler type one with a protective built in casing.

Having said that DC2's itouch was smashed when youngest grabbed in and dropped it.

Well they were designed to be portable not be thrown at a wooden floor. It's their own fault, at 11 they should know better.

There's a lot more than one person on here who thinks the problem lies with misuse rather than a problem with iPads

Don't replace them! Tell them they only get one gadget a year, if they break it before the year is up, too bad.

My 2yo has a tablet and it has a rubber skin thingy on it and a screen protector.

Did you not think to get something like that before giving it them?

Well, if they get new ones, new rule then: use the case or lose the tablet!

And they break so easily because they aren't meant to be thrown on the floor. Portable does not mean abused, FFS.

Also, anything will break if you mistreat it, whether a computer or a car. If they aren't careful enough to take care of their things, perhaps they shouldn't have them.
