To ask "when will this sleep training actually work?"

2 yr old dd2 has never been a good sleeper. She had reflux as a baby & co slept so never really learnt to sleep and certainly never learnt to settle independently of me or DP rocking / cuddling / laying with her or her having a bottle

Any way Tuesday we took the plunge and took her bed time bottle away. I put a stool next to her bed and sat with her. It took 1 hr. 45 and I put her back over 40 times

Second night 15 mins (moved stool near door)
Last night 3 mins
Tonight layed down with no fuss and went to sleep

Yay

But
She wakes in the night & used to demand milk but now I've just been putting her back & repeating what I do at bed time but last night she got up at 11, 1, 3 and 5
It takes about 15 mins for her to fall asleep then I go back to my bed.

Will this get better?

I think the bed time bottle might still be needed? Then leave the room? My friends LO is 3 and still has the bottle but they can just give the bottle and leave her.

She can't have milk since she had rotavirus and now she will be sick if she drinks milk

She's not cross etc she just delays bed time by asking for more stories or to brush her teeth again etc

Sounds like she's doing well to me. Sleep training can take weeks.

It will get better, as will ours.

Thankfully DD has not had rotavirus but was a colicky refluxy screamy preemy. Now sleepwalks and sleeptalks to confuse things slightly.

She does occasionally sleep through, but will relapse. We are currently on week 6 of night waking, and day 5 of this bout of Rapid Return. Like your DD she isn't unhappy during in, in fact skips back to bed each time, but massively delays actually going to bed too.

Stay firm... or be naughty mummy like me and try bribery whe desperate for some zzz's Blush
