To be this annoyed?

I have just received a phone call from a student let agency that my sister has used whilst at uni.

The rental has been taken out in her name and other students are renting rooms under this rental (possibly classed as sub let)

Sister has dropped out of uni and has not been there for 6 weeks but only let people know a week before Xmas that this was happening.

The agency has called me because they can't get hold of her, they can't get hold of my DM or DSF and I have been put down as a reference without my consent and knowledge, I'm bloody annoyed at this as idon't know what i have been signed up for, is it just a reference or have I been named guarantor?

AIBU and precious about my personal details?

I phoned sister to tell her the agency have been trying to get hold of her and response was 'oh for fucks sake' no thanks nothing.

When my DD was at uni, we were asked to sign as guarantor for the rent should she not pay. When the papers came to sign, we were being expected to sign as guarantor for the whole rent, not just that of our DD (in effect agreeing to cover unpaid rent/other expenses from 5 other students we did not know). We insisted the form was changed so that we were only liable for our DD's costs not anyone elses (could have been a fortune if, say, none of the other students paid).
If you have been put down as a reference without your consent you need to inform the agency and tell them that, also insist on seeing a copy of the signed agrement.
Find out from your sister if she has 'signed' you up for something!

Unless your sister forged your signature, you can't be named a guarantor without your knowledge. There are forms to be filled out to become guarantor, you can't just appoint someone willy nilly.

But I would contact the agency and say you are not her point of contact and never have been.

The agency now know that I had no knowledge of this, they were nearly as shocked as me. I better find out the details, I think I'm going to call the agency, I will probably get the truth that way.
