To ask if anyone else gets really hot feet at night? And also wonder why it happens?

Do other people get really hot feet at night when the go to bed? Mine often feel as though they are burning and I stick them off the side of the bed. Sometimes I splash cold water on them.

Also, why do feet get so hot at night? I would ask my GP, but I think he would give me a Hmm sort of look.

I do. I am forever sticking them out from under the covers then back under when they're cooled down. Sometimes I get one foot that burns hot more than the other. Don't know why it happens either but it's really annoying.

Sometimes I get one hot foot too. Does having hot feet mean you have good circulation?

If it's burning hot are you sure it isn't something like athletes foot?

ResolutelyCheeky · 02/01/2013 14:10

I have had this for about 5 years. Uncomfortably hot heels even if it is minus 10 outside.
I went to GP and he gave me injections in the heels for Plantar fasciitis (very painful btw) and the upshot was it didn't work.
Do you also find that you suffer with hideous dry, cracked heels?

DragonMamma · 02/01/2013 14:14

I don't but my Stepdad does - we refer to it as HFS (hot feet syndrome, made up name of course). He suffers from terrible cracked heels too.

It comes and goes though and he's not sure why, he gets it in the days too. he's not even 40 and has been going on for a few years but isn't sure why?! He does have MS but no known circulatory problems. It makes his life a misery when HFS is in the house though.

BunFagFreddie · 02/01/2013 14:14

WitchOfEndor, It's definitely not athletes foot, I've had that before.

Cheeky, no I don't have dry, cracked heels, the soles of my feet just get really hot when I'm trying to sleep. Maybe they are like it all the time, but there are no distractions at night.

Mine get hot too when I go to bed...even when they're sticking out from the covers. I get a bad itch under my left foot too. I've tried athlete's foot cream and powder but it hasn't worked. Sudocrem helps with the itch though.

I asked my GP friend and she said it was harmless. I put damp socks on and this cools my hot old paws beautifully. HTH.

PessaryPam · 02/01/2013 14:21

I always have cold feet. We should get together....

MrsReiver · 02/01/2013 14:23

Do you get restless legs? I'm pregnant and really suffering badly with restless legs and hot feet at night. I have a glass of tonic water before I go to bed and that seems to be helping - it just doesn't taste the same without the gin Sad

Noren · 02/01/2013 14:43

I get this, so did my Grandad. He used to put aftershave on them! I put cooling thick moisturiser on (the kind with peppermint in is nice) and that seems to work for me.

GrumpySod · 02/01/2013 14:46

I used to. Now I have cold cold feet. Be careful what you wish for.

ResolutelyCheeky · 02/01/2013 15:01

Perhaps we should 'hot foot' it over to the 'health' thread? Grin

I also get this my feet are burning right now I also feel My legs tingle I think I’m low in iron I’m also very stressed because I have a 9,3,2 and 5 month old to run after day in day out the stress is real , can’t think of what else it could be but it’s horrible

zeroalcohol · 18/06/2021 00:20

No, I get the opposite - freezing cold!

upthekyber · 18/06/2021 00:52

YES! I have googled this so many times and Nada, we call it hot foot disease and until my son moaned to mean one night I thought I was alone, but cursed my bad genes.
I have a fan, stick them out of the bed, tilt the foot end of the bed up and my secret weapon

A cold water bottle! Trust me it works.
Since I got older it has improved or I have got used to it but I do still have it, just doesn't feel so horrible

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 18/06/2021 00:59

I’m the opposite, no matter how hot I am I have freezing cold feet in the day as well as at night, particularly my right foot, it’s so frustrating particularly in summer, I cant wear flip flops or sandals with nice summery clothes for any length of time, I need to wear thick socks all the damn time, I envy people who can walk around the house barefoot, summer dresses and ugg boots are not a good look.

If it progesses to tingling and throbbing it could be worth looking at diabetes, or pre-diabetes; I believe it is one of the early signs.
