to think about looking for another job?

I'm having several issues at work at the moment but the most important ones are these:
I was offered my job at x pay rate per hr, which I was happy with. On my last paycheck I checked the rate of pay and it is pay rate y per hr (less than x). My first pay check I was paid at x, so I assumed it was a mistake by the accountant. When I asked about it, I was told it WAS a mistake, but a mistake on my first month's pay so my correct rate of pay was y and not x. So I am actually being paid less than I was told I would be when I was offered the job.

The other problem is when I was offered the job I was told I would be contracted for 40hrs a week. When I got my contract a few weeks ago I noticed I was actually contracted for 36hrs a week - not a massive difference but I am still a bit pissed that I am not getting what I was promised. In addition, I was told last week that because it is not winter and very quiet I am under no circumstances to work more hours than my contracted hours - on checking my shifts next week I am rota-ed for 33hrs.

AIBU to be fed up and look for another job since a) I am not being paid what I was promised, b) I am not getting the hours I was promised, c) I am not currently even getting my contracted hours and am not allowed to do any more?

Of course you aren't.
Have you asked them to explain why they offered you something and appear to have given you something else? Do you have the original offer in writing?

am in a not dissimmilar position to yourself, at interview said i needed full time hours (so i could pay rent, bills etc) got the job, when the contract came out was only 30 hours contract, not happy as had signed off so no way of going back to job center, first two months hours between 35 and 40 so not too bad, last month and this my hours have gone down and down to now only about 20-24 hours, cant live on this so have had to apply for HB again am peed off as i like my job but am seriously considering looking around for another job

No, look for something else if thats what you want because it's not likely to improve. In my experience anyway.

They don't sound like they'd be the most ethical or considerate employers so I would leave at the first opportunity.

What is your rate of pay on your contract? If they have changed such basic things as this so early on in your tenure, then I would be looking for a new job as soon as possible, what else will they change in future? Your accepting this without kicking up a might fuss sets a precedent for them to treat you similarly in the future.

That's it issey, I like my job but I need the hours I was promised to pay my bills, rent etc. This is really the first time since moving out that we have not had to rely on HB and I dont want to go back to that but what is making it worse is that because it is so quiet at the moment they keep closing the restaurant early so I am losing even more hours!

Unfortunately dont have the original offer in writing as they made it to me over the phone - the amended contract was only given to me 2 weeks ago and I've been working for them since october.

It feels like they have moved the goalposts because they have realised that they cant afford to give me what they offered - but I just have to deal with it now as jobs are in short supply over the winter :(

extreme i work in a restaurant aswell , it seems to come with the territory, what the one i work at is doing is chopping an hour here and there off start time, less shifts, daytime shifts less people running the kitchen and bosses pets getting five shifts not so popular people getting 3 or four shifts and yes because its now post christmas i cant see it getting any better
