To have stayed in the correct line?

Was shopping yesterday and the store has split the sales desk in half with 2 huge signs one half for returns/refund the other half for sales. There was a tense barrier between the 2.

There was about 7 people in the returns line waiting as I walked up to the sales side as the lady was finishing serving someone. The next thing I knew I was getting screamed at by some woman in the refund queue that "the queue starts here so join it". I realised it was being aimed at me with the killer like glare she was giving me. I said "I am not returning anything that's the returns line" that just set another 2 of them hollering at me who did I think I was they had waited in 1 line and they were not returning anything either.

At this point the shop assistant jumped in and pointed out the massive signage above the till and the fact she had apparently shouted out to them several times the side they were in was for refunds and she apologises to me for the grief I got and served me. I offered the women to come over infront of me before she started but they preferred to stand and give me verbal abuse throughout my transaction.

Stupid but I was really shaken by it. Not my fault they can't read massive signage! So should I have joined the main queue and waited or follow the clear instructions given?

No you did the right thing. If they were pissed off at the arrangements they should be complaining to the store and not shouting at you!

Their lack of common sense and observational skills are their problem, I would have stayed where I was.

They are idiots

Lol, YWNBU, they were shouting at themselves really for being too stupid to spot the sign and just queuing like sheep. I can understand original shouter, but she should have shut and apologised once informed of blindingly obvious queue system, not kept on grumbling.

Montybojangles · 29/12/2012 09:45

Shut up that should read

HecateQueenofWitches · 29/12/2012 09:47

Nope. They were stupid.

And having made such a big fuss and been told they were wrong, probably felt too stupid to back down.

They knew they were wrong. The whole queue knew they were wrong. The assistant knew they were wrong. You knew they were wrong.

Don't let it disturb you.

They couldn't stop screaming probably because they felt foolish when their error was pointed out to them.

Some people are like that.
