To wish they'd be honest...

The turkey was shit and the roast potatoes were a disaster. I'm gutted and was a bit tearful about it but they (DH, my mum and dad) all keep saying it was lovely. I bloody know it wasn't because I forced the same crappy meal down my throat too!

Of course, if they actually were honest I'd probably be upset about that too!! Poor Ems23's family!!

Don't be so hard on yourself.
Maybe they're complimenting you on effort, that's all that really matters.

SoleSource · 25/12/2012 19:18

You did brilliantly xxxx

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/12/2012 19:19

You don't go for the food you go for the company. You went to aloof time and effort and whatever the meal was like they would have appreciated that. Go sit with them have some Wine and Xmas pud and enjoy the rest of the evening.

You will laugh about this next yr :)

JustFabulous · 25/12/2012 19:19

Why do you want them to be honest? Maybe, actually, it wasn't as bad as you thought?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 25/12/2012 19:19

Alot of Blush

Bluestocking · 25/12/2012 19:21

Don't be daft, Ems23, your family love you and appreciate all your hard work! Go and drink a Tia Maria or whatever you like best after dinner, let someone else wash up, and bask in the warmth of a family Christmas.

EMS23 · 25/12/2012 21:35

Aw thank you all, I'm feeling a lot better now. It's been a tough few days for various reasons so I think the food was the last straw!
Since posting I've had a bottle of bubbly with my parents while DH dozed on the sofa and I've had a good chat with them, which was lovely.
Bloody Christmas pressures hey?!

So glad you're feeling better! Enjoy the rest of the Christmas break. Smile

EMS23 you do realise that food cooked FOR you tastes a million times better than it would otherwise don't you?!? They most likely really did enjoy it and your being a self critical cook.

whois · 25/12/2012 23:14

*you're

TheCraicDealer · 25/12/2012 23:16

If people's main motivation for going to Christmas dinner was to get a 5* meal there'd be a lot more people going to restaurants on the 25th. Stop beating yourself up!

AnyaKnowIt · 25/12/2012 23:19

Meh, don't beat yourself up. I was served up veg that was still frozen today!

Did it ruin the meal? No, I really did enjoy it and it was just lovely being around friends and family Xmas Grin

Don't stress and have a Wine
