Not really an aibu, but DH agreed to get the turkey. There are only 3 + a baby for lunch and I'm vegetarian. He went out yesterday and came back with what looks like a giant log covered in bacon. What am I meant to do with it? He said it's a turkey crown, but it doesn't look like any pics online.... no instructions. help!

Weigh it, and then look online for cooking instructions.

Don't panic Smile

But it looks nothing like anything online! It's just a big meat log.

190 (180 fan assisted) 20 mins per kg plus 90 mins loose foil remove for last 50 mins. Basically cook crowns and turkey joints same as whole turkey. Test by sticking knife into thickest part to see if juices ruN clear. Allow to rest for at least an hour after cooking.

Hope this helps

it's pretty much how I'm cooking ours Xmas Smile

see here for timings. Cover with foil until the last 30mins or so.

Sounds like a boned turkey crown (just the meat, rolled and tied and covered with bacon). Pour a bit of water in the bottom of the tray when cooking can stop it drying out.

HollyBerryBush · 25/12/2012 09:25

A turkey crown is just the breasts with no bones no legs - it really isn't that difficult (not being sarky) - just cook it like a chicken, mind you thats no help if you are veggie!

never cook turkey for too long - it dries out - and cover it in butter (helpful hint) and chop up some onions and put in the tin with it - they recycle the moisture to stop it drying out

JenaiMathis · 25/12/2012 10:11

It sounds like a breast joint. Is it stuffed? Did he get it from a supermarket or a butchers? Is it ready basted?

JenaiMathis · 25/12/2012 10:15

I have one btw which is stuffed, weighs 1.5kg. Says to cook covered in foil for 1hr 45 mins, removing foil for final 30 mins, gas mark 4.

wongadotmom · 25/12/2012 10:28

Don't do anything with it. Let DH do it - you are a vegetarian! HtH Grin
