To bin the trifle?

Mum has just realised the sherry she added to the annual trifle tastes a bit funny, after checking the label it says "drink within 1 month of opening".

Dad has admitted sherry is only ever used at trifle time and was in fact opened 15 years ago, in this time the cork has dissolved.

Mum wants to chuck the trifle rather than inflict it on DSiss party tomorrow.

Dad says it didn't poison anyone on the previous 14 years of outings so it's fine.

I hate trifle so couldn't care less but said I would hand it over to MN Jury........

Alcohol is a preservative so it won't poison anyone. Might will taste vile, though Xmas Hmm

BOFingSanta · 25/12/2012 03:03

It won't kill anyone, but it will taste of vinegar. I'd bin it.

Iheartpasties · 25/12/2012 03:12

15 years old!!!! a ha ha ha ha ha

HarlettHoHoHoScara · 25/12/2012 03:18

Trifle is minging regardless of sherry of questionable vintage so bin it anyway.

chubbychipmonk · 25/12/2012 03:21

I'd serve it up & then tell the guests after they'd eaten it, 'there's actually a funny story about the trifle you just ate. . . . '

Mwahahahahaha Grin

FellatioNelson · 25/12/2012 03:37

15 years? FIFTEEN YEARS? Who has alcohol this long? [shocked]

I'm usually very laid back about these things but I think 15 years is pushing it. chuck the trifle.

What I don't understand is how you like sherry enough to buy it for the trifle but not enough to drink it afterwards. Confused

MyCannyBairn · 25/12/2012 03:55

I wouldn't want to eat that and I'm not an overly fussy mare.

ZacharyQuack · 25/12/2012 04:00

You'd probably pay a fortune for 15 year old sherry. Tell them you've used the special vintage.

I hate trifle, pass the pav.

FellatioNelson · 25/12/2012 04:05

Yes, but not an opened 15 year old sherry! It will be oxidized. Bleugh.

FellatioNelson · 25/12/2012 04:06

Why are you people all awake? i live three hours ahead of the UK and I had to get up early to get my turkey out of its brining liquid. What's your excuse?

MyCannyBairn · 25/12/2012 04:10

Poorly Bairn. :(

MyCannyBairn · 25/12/2012 04:11

Brining liquid, what be this ...?

FellatioNelson · 25/12/2012 04:14

Nigella's mixture of sugar and salt in water, with onions, oranges, and various herbs and spices. They are barely perceptible in the finished turkey but they make it deliciously moist and flavoursome.

FellatioNelson · 25/12/2012 04:15

Sorry about poorly baby. What a pain at Christmas.

FellatioNelson · 25/12/2012 04:17

Anyway Merry Christmas in spite of everything, and I have to get up now and cook stuff! It is 7.15am here. I am off over the road to buy lovely croissants from the posh bakery which will be open today. Hurrah!

Lots of love and Christmas happiness to all. xxxxxxxxxx

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 25/12/2012 04:17

MyCannyBairn · 25/12/2012 04:36

Also bfing, 18 months old. Happy Christmas !

Softlysoftly · 25/12/2012 06:37

Morning! Thank you Jury shall tell Dad that on balance he is the unlucky loser and should either bin or at least admit sherry age to Dsis.

Fellatio a combination of having to follow great Aunt Annies recipe for everything (including crap we hate) and a certain thriftiness in his nature itll be needed some day love Yorkshire attitude has led to the unfortunate alcohol vintage. Had it been wine it wouldn't have lasted the day.

Mycanny I do hope DC feels better today. Merry Christmas.
