to make out dc has had chicken pox

A little while ago dc attended a 1st brthday party. Within two days I was texted that one of the attendees had come down with chickenpox. I was fairly confident, and not too unhappy, that dc would get chickenpox soon. The following sat she came down with a rash and we kept her home for a week. In the interim I spoke to original chickenpox parent.. who was soo apologetic.. although I insisted it was fine.

Strangely, the little red spots never scabbed but faded, and she has had similar rashes since. So my suspicion is that it was some allergic reaction, not chickenpox: I regularly meet with these mums- should I admit it. I feel a right idiot..

WTF?

Sorry, is a bit of your post missing? Confused

Why would you feel the need to lie?

On an unrelated note, I've had CP 3 times and the first 2 times was just as you described.

The 3rd time was 'full blown' and I never got it again.

I think you'll look like more of an idiot if you go on about something that's way, way in the past and is trivial anyway! Forget about it. If your child gets CP then bluff - lots of kids get it twice!

alisarah · 20/12/2012 23:07

I never lied-- I thought dc had chickenpox, but now suspect she never did because of all the allergic reactions she is having.

I agree with northern .. no point in bringing it up. Just wondering others thoughts.

Of course there is no need to bring it up, and if its mentioned just say you were mistaken.

Why on earth do you think that you have to 'admit' anything?

TeWisBeenNargledByTheMistletoe · 20/12/2012 23:12

DD has had suspected chicken pox twice (3rd time today!) It wasn't actually either of those times.

In DDs case the presentation of her eczema just looks very similar to the pre-pox rash.

I don't think getting confused is anything to feel embarrassed about! There are plenty of other similar looking rashes around.

Your thread title says 'AIBU to make out DC has had chicken pox'

If your DC hasn't then that would be a lie, no?

I'm just bemused as to why you think something so trivial as thinking your child may/may not have contracted chicken pox, is even important.

Let alone something that's going to make you feel like a 'right idiot'?

DeSelby · 20/12/2012 23:18

This happened a lot in my NCT group, people would say their baby had chicken pox, warn everyone & then afterwards it would transpire that it had been another rash. I assume that's what you're referring to? If so, don't worry everyone just tended to be grateful for the warning anyway even if it ended up to not be CP. Looking back I'm not sure why!

alisarah · 20/12/2012 23:38

Thanks for replies: I am new to this and it is genuinely nice to here I am not the only one to be confused.

The only reason I feel the need to 'confess' is that the original mum was, unnecessarily, so apologetic : sorry this is so trivial!! Like I said, good to know it is not just me ..

Sorry OP I didn't mean the subject/thread was trivial.

What I meant was, finding out a baby may/may not (and let's remember you don't know for sure) have got chicken pox is nothing to give a second thought to.

So what if you are wrong? Parents are encouraged not to take their kids to the Doc's surgery to have CP confirmed so you're in the same boat as everyone else IYSWIM?

Really, don't give it a second thought.

Rudolphstolemycarrots · 21/12/2012 00:14

Why not just tell you friend that the chicken pox marks didn't scab over as expected and you are now having doubts that it even was the pox.

We had a few false alarms like this with DS1 before having it.
