we still seem incapable of manufacturing a bag for rice that opens properly! All I want is for it not to tear in a way that makes pouring it impossible without covering the kitchen floor ffs! But it does. Every bloody time.

Is that really beyond us? IS IT?

(And if you know the magic/obvious trick to this that I am missing - please share! I don't care how stupid it makes me look!)

I am a terrible terrible person. I buy the 'boil in the bag' ones Blush

WorraLorraTurkey · 18/12/2012 21:27

Scissors...snip off the top in a straight line and then fold it over and tape it shut Grin

Or use a rice jar after you've snipped the top of the bag off.

specialsubject · 18/12/2012 21:29

get thee to Home Bargains and buy one of those square tins that has a picture of a washing machine on it. Pour the rice into that, and then measure it out with a mug - the tin is big enough to get the mug into it.

No stress, no spills.

Hobbitation · 18/12/2012 21:29

I was going to say I don't have that problem and then I realised you meant non-microwave Blush

Moominguru · 18/12/2012 21:30

I'm sure I've tried scissors - the bag just seems so full that I still end up spilling. I must just be a cack handed so-and-so Grin

I always empty my Basmati into this. I strongly recommend you buy one.

I snip the edge of the rice packet with scissors and empty straight in. Voila! No more spilt rice!

Moominguru · 18/12/2012 21:32

Brilliant - an excuse to go to Home Bargains! Dp will be so pleased. He shudders whenever I announce I'm going there, almost as much as when I suggest a trip to Dunelm Mill.

i use a tub as it always tears

CaliforniaSucksSnowballs · 18/12/2012 21:33

I have a Tupperware box and empty the bag in that, then use a cup to measure.

Luckyluckyme · 18/12/2012 21:56

I only use microwave rice lazy efficient person that I am Smile

It's always whole grain - does that make it any better Confused Grin

MrsFlibble · 18/12/2012 23:38

Mooning I shudder at the the thought of a shopping trip at Dunelm Mill. My sister and mum shopping together, its scary.

MrsHoarder · 18/12/2012 23:45

Tip the bag so that there is no rice in one top corner. Snip that corner so you have a gap of about an inch. Pour rice neatly. Put a bag peg thingy on the folded down corner so you don't get a cupboard full of rice.

Startail · 18/12/2012 23:56

I bought a big 5kg pot of basmati from ASDA. DH pours big bags of rice into it every so often.
(My hands are tiny, he can hold pot and bag, I'd make a huge mess)

sashh · 19/12/2012 02:00

I use the bags but when I first open it I open it inside the pan I'm going to cook the rice in.

SantaIAmSoFuckingRock · 19/12/2012 02:11

cant you just snip the top corner of the bag and pour?

recall · 19/12/2012 02:18

I'm with you Moomin - why?
