To think that Ted from 'How I Met Your Mother' is an irritating twat.

That?s it really. His twee desperation to find the love of his life makes me roll my eyes and mutter obscenities. I?ve only seen a few episodes, but bloody hell, he annoys me. From what I can gather we?re supposed to believe that he?s this winsome, untiring, old fashioned romantic who?ll do whatever it takes to meet his One True Love. Cue supposed happy sighs from the soppy hearted audience cos he?s just so gosh darned adorable. From what I?ve seen he treats the potential ?Mothers? pretty crappily.

Oh, and he?s a bore.
Oh, and he?s got a very smug nose.

Anyone agree?

Yanbu, he reminds me off Ross in Friends. Singularly unattractive.

Ted's the architect. Why is architect always used as the 'sexy' profession? I know lots of ugly architects.

Dark haired architect - I think he did teach for a bit though Sugar.

It is impossible to watch an episode of HIMYM without shouting "Shut up, Ted!" at least once. Fact.

Howdy! I am a total HIMYM fan - and I like many others believe the same as you!! Ted is not supposed to be a likeable character - we're frustrated and wound up and irritated with his stupidity - in my opinion the minor characters are much more interesting, more three dimensional and just generally more fun on my screen.

Ted is just the rather dull point upon which the story is spun.

Agree with Phoenix. I love HIMYM but he's my least favourite character, I like the others far more than Ted. Barney is my favourite.

The 'architect' thing annoys me loads too - he is apparently a commercial architect who still draws everything on a drawing board by hand with not a computer in sight. I had to get rid of my dust gathering drawing board years ago.

You'd deliberately want to wind him up on dates, mispronouncing stuff, announcing Proust was an anagram of 'sprout' and, as you hate sprouts it follows that you hate Proust etc. just for giggles. Then when he got all pretentious take him down several pegs with your superior intellect & general knowledge. Ahem

And the fact he is telling the story of how he met the children's mother with not a swear word in sight but loads of sex stories implies he's a pretty weird parent too.

"Swearing not good kids, but the time when Barney nailed 10 chicks in a night because of a mobile phone, well kids, that's your Uncle Barney who sadly passed away from several STD's."

And don't get mr started on the 'sandwiches'

Sorry, it's just not funny. I would say that Louis CK, Big Bang Theory, and so many other comedies are better. It is is mediocre to say the least.

Wait til you catch up with America! The episode on in the states last night was excellent and everybody came off very well - Ted was so selfless and I couldn't be happier for Barney and Robin!

I have a theory that the titular characters are frequently the PITA ones that a series would be much better without. As evidence I offer up Ted from HIMYM, Dawson from Dawson's Creek, Muriel from Grey's Anatomy, Will & Grace etc. To be fair Frasier is an honourable exception here but it does hold true in a lot of cases.
