Dd is 3.5 and loves tinkerbell. She has watched a couple of the DVDs and liked them so when I saw there was a new tinkerbell film out I thought it would be a nice idea to take her to the cinema for the first time to watch it.

Except it's going to cost me nearly £15 just to get in there- without even thinking about snacks, drinks sns parking.

£15 for bloody tinkerbell! And what if she decides that she doesn't like the cinema after the first 5 minutes?!

Am I missing something or is that extortionate?

Cinemas are getting ridiculous prices. Im not totally sure how they are justifying it really.

If £15 is out of your budget, wait until it is on at a weekend morning kid's screening. Odeon and Cineworld are amongst ones that do cheap screenings of movies that are a few months old.

It is extortionate. Sometimes they do cheaper showings at less busy times. Tesco clubcard vouchers can be used to buy cinema vouchers too.

Or wait until it's on DVD? Your dd won't know it's in the cinemas.

This is why I love the cinema we go to, seven of us are going to see The Hobbit on Sunday for a grand total (including booking fee) of £26.60, if we went on a weekday (including Friday) it would have cost us £19.60. Weirdly they have just built a new Odeon in the town and can't understand why no one goes there, I wonder why

Good suggestions of waiting until it's on for one of the kids' screenings but they seem to be a bit hit and miss with what's on.

Could just wait for the DVD but hoped it would be a special treat for her.

I'll probably pay up and look happy and see how it goes. But grrrrr!

That sounds pricey op! All i can suggest is, some cinemas have kids AM screenings for £1 per person on Saturday mornings, usually v early like 10am, its mostly the films that have been on for a few months rather than new releases.
Also, take your own popcorn/drinks etc, the stuff they sell is overpriced.

If it's an Odeon, and you have an o2 phone, you can get 40% off at the moment.

Yes, cineworld, Vue and odeon all do kids screenings on a Sat (and sometimes on a Sun, depending on the cinema) for about £1.50 ish. You have to keep checking for what film they are going to put on but things like tinkerbell are bound to be there at some point.

I can take my two to the local vue, buy three tickets and treat them to the kids popcorn tray (popcorn, oreo cookies and a drink) for a tenner all in.

Pants-it is am odeon but I don't have an O2 phone. SIL does though- would that work if I asked her to book the tickets?

The weekend morning cheap kids showings are great for establishing if your dc likes the cinema too, so try one if those and see if she likes it. My dd has been going to the cinema regularly since she was about 2.5 and she loves it. I remember taking her to see Up and she was open mouth- rapt the entire time!

It's cack but with the cost of print rentals, bastard 3D refits & all the overheads going up 'overcharging' on food & tickets is the only way they can really keep open.

Really wish we had a lovely independent cinema around here.

I agree with orange Wednesdays.

We are lucky that on a Wednesdays when me and my OH go it is £4.20 in and £2.80 for a popcorn (we bring our own drinks) so £7 for us both. I love it unfortunately my OH isn't that keen on the cinema :-(

Also we are lucky here that we have a movie house which does free 3D and £3 crazy Tuesdays.

Odeon should do crazy Tuesdays to .it does here.
