To be drinking fizz on the train?

Been at a conference all day in London, v tedious. Getting train to stay with family for the weekend and thought I'd have a small bottle of fizz on the way...it is fizzy Friday after all (to be fair every Friday is fizzy Friday). Just been told (by a rather attractive man) that drinking fizz on a train at this time is not the done thing. I think he's just jealous but wonders if there was some kind of London commuter etiquette that I'm unaware of, coming from the country?!

He's just jealous. Enjoy!

YANBU at all. DS' dad and I have been known to crack open cans of beer on the train at 11am when off on a trip with DS.

Sparkletastic · 14/12/2012 18:24

Offer attractive man a slurp of your fizz Xmas Grin

greenplastictrees · 14/12/2012 18:25

What train line is it? Quite common on west coast mainline from Euston as it's more of a long distance train (although does have commuters), not so common on networks like SWT where it's mostly loads of commuters and you can't get a seat but still not unheard of. If its TfL then it's banned to drink on there!

greenplastictrees · 14/12/2012 18:26

Oh and I have had cans of Pimms on the surburban line out of Waterloo before :)

TinyDancingHoofer · 14/12/2012 18:26

It's illegal to consume alcohol on the tube. Maybe he doesn't want you to get in trouble or he thinks you should share...

welshweasel · 14/12/2012 18:30

South west trains, yes a lot of commuters. I'm more used to long distance first great western where it seems to be acceptable to drink at any time of the day! It's past six now so deffo acceptable in my book. Will offer dishy man a sip and see what he says Grin

Hahahahahaha, London commuter etiquette Xmas Grin hahahahahaha! I've sat on London commuter trains into Victoria with a group of colleagues passing round a bottle of red wine and drinking from the bottle. I've also done worse. He is simply well jel of your fizz, or had his office party last night like ost of London, and is feeling a bit quiffy at the idea of booze. Enjoy your fizz!

DublinMammy · 14/12/2012 18:41

Enjoy!!! Did he want to share?

samandi · 14/12/2012 19:20

No, do what you like. How rude. Perhaps it was some kind of weird chat up line.

Acekicker · 14/12/2012 19:21

YANBU at all, this is exactly what small bottles of fizz and gin in a tin were invented for Xmas Smile

MogTheForgetfulCat · 14/12/2012 19:22

Not the done thing? Pah! Stuff and nonsense. Unless you are in a Quiet carriage and the pop of the cork enraged him? People get very huffy in the Quiet carriages, IME Grin

MogTheForgetfulCat · 14/12/2012 19:22

Oh, YANBU. Obvs.

LRDtheFeministDude · 14/12/2012 19:25

What a joyless weirdo!

Enjoy your fizz.

gindrinker · 14/12/2012 19:52

He sounds daft.
I love gin in a tin on a train!

I went Christmas shopping with a friend a couple of years ago. We deliberately took the bus so no driving. We did loads of totally rubbish shopping, including a memorable pair of shoes that made my friend look like a transvestite.

While waiting for the bus home we were looking at a pub and thinking we should get a drink to drink on the way home. I ran in to the pub and got a bottle and two plastic glasses.

Drank the wine on the bus on the way home and made a friend too. She was well impressed with us doing that and I was pretty impressed by someone who would react like that!!

Enjoy your bubbles and offer him some and see if he was jealous!!

magimedi88 · 14/12/2012 20:06

YANBU!

ENJOY!!!

(slurp, hic!)
