To really dislike the acronym OH?

I know it's a bit trivial but I get a bit irked everytime I come across it.

I use OH because we don't live together so I can't really call him DP and I hate the word 'boyfriend'. I'm 33 not 13.

squoosh · 13/12/2012 16:54

I hate that Mumsnet describes things such as DH, DS, DD, IFYSWIM, HTH as acronyms when they are nothing of the sort, they are initialisms.

NHS = initialism
NATO = acronym.

squoosh · 13/12/2012 16:55

Other half is twee.

Better half is twee as fuck.

toomuch2young · 13/12/2012 16:57

emmabemma no acronym is anywhere near as ridiculous as your 'caps lock tourettes' comment. Angry

squoosh · 13/12/2012 17:00

I hate when bloggers refer to their partner as Himself, Mister etc.

TheOriginalLadyFT · 13/12/2012 17:06

I use OH a lot, find it preferable to DH really, and only use it in jokey way, so for me, YABU Xmas Wink

FoofFighter · 13/12/2012 17:09

I use OH [shrugs]

I hate partner with a passion but not as much passion and the D in DP, DD, DS etc Hmm

We aren't married so what else can I use? Boyfriend? Loverrrr?

EuroShagmore · 13/12/2012 17:09

I'd never come across DH etc prior to joining MN. And I have been on other internet fora for years. (But I have since seen them on Nethuns and similar.)

MrsLyman · 13/12/2012 17:09

I generally use my phone to post if I had to type husband instead of DH it would take hours. I also quite like that in RL my DH's initsls are actually DH! I can also tell if I have been spending too long on here if have to stop myself from saying DH instead of husband in conversation.

I get that OH can be other half of couple but it's often not used in that context, it's generally 'my OH'.

At least it is not the vomit-making 'hubby' Grin

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 13/12/2012 17:13

I hate DD and will not use it for my daughter. She's not my 'darling daughter' or whatever it means, she's my UPITAD (utter pain in the arse daughter).

HappyJustToBe · 13/12/2012 17:37

I can read books and newspapers quite easily. I think I find it easier to read because I get into the zone and then posts that are different ate harder to read.

cantspel · 13/12/2012 18:02

I want to know why everyone has a d for darling in front of it apart from mother in law which is only ever posted as mil

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/12/2012 18:26

I prefer OH to DP. I never call anybody darling or dear,it's a bit 1950's.

And he is the other half of my relationship.

I would quite like it if he called me his BH (better half) because obviously that's true Xmas Grin
