I must have 1 call every 20 mins trying to sell me something, at leat 80% of the time it is someone with an Indian accent. If I answer the phone now and the person has an Indian accent I put the phone down. In fact, I have decided not to answer the phone before 8pm, much to the annoyance of friends and family.

TPS doesn't stop them any more. I'm registered and still get loads.

Are you annoyed because the calls are unsolicited and every twenty minutes? If so, you are not a racist.

oh gawd...i dont answer my phone either! but not because the caller are Indian ...because they are trying to make me buy stuff i dont want and I dont have time to politely make excuses

I haven't had a single sales call in over six months since I changed my number and registered with TPS.

They don't claim to stop all of them and it takes a while, but imo they're brilliant.

You will, Worra. Give it time. We have registered, re-registered, etc. But because we work from home and have to answer the landline because we have frail, elderly parents, they know we are around and continue to call us.

Worra - I've been with the TPS for about 10 years and for a long time they were great but inthe past two years the calls have started up again with avengeance.

Yes yes to TPS. We get very few calls now except for what I assume is a debt collector. When I say wrong number/stop flipping calling they hang up. Refuse to say who they are! So I hang up on them when they ask for this mysterious 'George Taylor'.

I have caller id on the phone and if it's an international or 0845 number i don't answer.

See my mate is registered with TPS and she moans about getting sales calls too

But it turns out, she gives her phone number to companies when she wants a quote, or when she buys something from a shop and they ask for her phone number.

I don't give it to any bugger so don't get that problem.

Same! Whenever I stay at my parents I am always shocked at the volume of sales calls they get every day, often by people with Indian accents but called Humphrey or Brian.

I get this a lot, but there have been two unfortunate incidents where I was about to snap at the caller, and it turned out on occasion one that it was a work call and on occasion two it was a local business with whom I'd placed an order.

what is racist in saying you do not want to talk to someone in another country whos accent you have difficulty with and their way of giving you the info (it is always so drawn out) when you have an i quiry or are beign sold something

There's no point in saying no thank you....you must also tell them to take your details off their data base.

I am registered with the TPS but I buy a lot on line and I think that is how they get around the rules. However, as far as I am concerned they are unsolicited.

I have told them over and over to not call and take me off their database. They still call.

I'm going to buy a whistle and keep it by the phone. If someone calls who is saying they are selling something I will blow really really hard down the phone at them.

I always hang up if it's an Indian accent too. And if there's no-one there immediately as I know that's an autodialler. Everyone who is in any way important to me has my mobile or they can leave a message. In fact the only people ever to call the landline are offshore call centres and my Grandma. And I don't much like her either...

I can tell when theres a long pause between me saying hello and "good afternoon, ma'am and how are you this fine afternoon? Now Im not goinmg to try to sell you anything today and am calling on behalf of XYZ company's marketing department to carry out some research. My name is Barnie and do I have the pleasure of speaking to Mrs Paws, can I call you Front or would you prefer Mrs Paws? Can I just ask what your household annual income is? When is your car/home insurance due? And where do you buy your gar/electricity from???"

I get them a lot. Can you tell? Last one was Unicef ('Buy a pack of Pampers NOW, or the babies DIE). I must be on a million lists.
