...when they say "ooh you look nice"

Yeah I know I'm not usually dressed to the nines but I'm a SAHM who does a bit of work from home. I don't need to meet clients so I spend most days in practical clothes (jeans, long sleeved Ts etc), but I always shower, brush hair & wear make-up (bad skin so a bit paranoid about not wearing make-up) even if I'm just dropping the dcs at school.

So AIBU to think that on days when I've got somewhere to be & I make more of an effort, and people make a show of it, what they're basically saying is "Normally you look a state, but it's nice today that you've gone to some bother"

Or Am I just projecting my insecurities and complete lack of self confidence?

I know where you are coming from but I think people are just complimenting your look because you are a bit more glam than usual. I'm a bit of a scruff most days and also work from home so I know how you feel!! Be confident, I'm sure you like nice dressed up or down!

I asked my daughter if I looked ok in my new hat the other day and she said "It looks alright but just don't go out of the house in it!!" mmmmhhh....

People are just being nice. If you do look more dressed up, it's nice for people to mention that you look nicer than usual (which you've acknowledged yourself) - it doesn't necessarily mean you normally look crap! Grin

Be grateful you don't get told "you look fresh."

My nephew. 30 years old.

fresh? I look fresh?

As opposed to my normal look of week old haddock?

My FIL was nice enough to mention at my wedding that I scrub up well Hmm.

I think YABU, though. I agree they're just being nice.
