Writing Christmas Cards.

It irritates me the way some people don't bother to address who they're sending it to inside their Christmas cards. It's like they have sooooo many to send out they just can't possibly spare the time to write "To SamuelWestsMistress" in it.

Also not, quite as irritating but a little bit is the "and family". So impersonal!

It's Christmas FFS. Either send cards because you actually care, or don't! Don't just sign a load of them and hand them out like Kerry Catona at a WHSmith book signing.

Maybe they can't remember all the names?

PetFox · 05/12/2012 13:53

I've never seen that before. How impersonal and lazy!

Fakebook · 05/12/2012 13:54

Write your name in yourself. I used to do that to all the blank cards we used to get when I was younger.

takataka · 05/12/2012 13:55

i dont send cards because I care half the time, its just so as not to offend people!

I have had neighbours moaning about other neighbours not giving them Xmas cards..and work colleagues.

I hate Xmas cards, apart from sending them to people I dont see very often. But the people I see every day-why cant I just wish them a Merry Xmas?

takataka · 05/12/2012 13:55

and it is time consuming writing Xmas cards!

Pourquoimoi · 05/12/2012 13:56

I agree.

I think it tends to be older people in my experience that don't address the inside of the card. Don't know if that is the case for others?

I am occasionally guilty of the 'and family' thing but usually only if I can't remember all their names. If I address it to friend & family then I also sign it off from pourquoi & family so that it looks purposeful.

Janeatthebarre · 05/12/2012 13:58

YABU. They went to the bother of sending you a card and you're still finding fault.
Also, if its someone who doesn't see you that much they might not actually remember the names of your children.

RightsaidFreud · 05/12/2012 14:01

I do the 'and family' thing in my neighbours xmas cards. I don't know all their childrens names (most have grown up children) but if i did know them I would write it.

RightsaidFreud · 05/12/2012 14:02

What would offend you more, writing 'and family' or just addressing it to you, and not including the 'and family'?

PessaryPam · 05/12/2012 14:07

Yes

MadameCastafiore · 05/12/2012 14:10

I'm not sending cards this year to people I see all the time and can say Merry Christmas to and give them a hug - much nicer, cheaper and quicker than sitting writing the bloody things out so I don't give a hoot what people write in the ones they send to me - just hope me not sending them one means they will get the drift next year and I won't have a recycling box full of the bloody things!

planestrainsautomobiles · 05/12/2012 14:12

YABU. Every year it seems less people send out cards, I couldn't give two hoots if they put my name or left it blank. I don't really see what the issue is as they've obviously written your name on the envelope.

RightsaidFreud · 05/12/2012 14:12

OH's family get their knickers in a right twist if they don't get cards. We see them EVERY WEEK! why do they need it quantifying in a bloody card??

DeWe · 05/12/2012 14:18

I don't tend to write people's names after the year that dd1 helpfully put them all into the envelopes without realising and they all got the wrong cards Grin.

I've no idea who writes our name and who doesn't because it wouldn't occur to me to look-although occasionally dd1 has commented her name is spelt wrong. She would be much less bothered by it not being there (assuming all weren't there or just Family) than the bad spelling.

Moominsummermadness · 05/12/2012 14:22

Yanbu.

Dh's father sent us a Christmas card addressed , "To MrMoomin and family". He couldn't be bothered to put my name on the card, nor (even worse), our three year old daughter's name.
