Posted on good housekeeping, but no one has replied and its been a full 5 minutes...

So, AIBU to get a cleaner. My house is horrendous, I feel totally overwhelmed and have no time before 20th December to get it looking any better...

And is it U to ask a cleaner to load the dishwasher, fold the laundry etc?

And (last one I promise) is it U to leave the house a tip and pay a cleaner to sort out the filth for me? I'm so ashamed it has got to this Blush

No

Get one

It's marvellous

Go through what you want doing at the start. Pay them well and treat them nicely

SauvignonBlanche · 02/12/2012 12:15

YANBU at all.

BumpingFuglies · 02/12/2012 12:17

Go for it! Wish I could

Don't understand all this angst on MN about getting a cleaner - if you want one and can afford one, why on earth not?

DuddlePuck · 02/12/2012 12:18

Next question... My next door neighbour is a cleaner. Is it too wierd to see if she has time to do our house too? I'm not sure I want someone I know to see the state I live in, or deal with pubes in the bath etc...

Bumping, we can't really afford one, but I don't think we can afford not to IYKWIM. At the moment I'd say its becoming an essential!

I've had a cleaner for 18 months now and I love it. Do it!
I have a quick tidy up the night before she comes and empty my bathroom bin but other than that I leave her tour. She does 2 hours for £20 and I love her.

I don't think I'd have a neighbour or friend. Who knows? She might go through drawers/cupboards to see what she can find out. My cleaner lives a good mile away and I'd never met her before. She knows nothing about me apart from give-away photograhs on the walls.

I have had a cleaner in the past and it is fantastic! Go for it.

I don't know why it's regarded as lazy having a cleaner in this country. My mum used to be very proud about being able to clean herself and that women who don't clean are lazy.

I've lived in a few countries in my life and its completely normal to have a cleaner to come and wash/iron clothes and clean the bathrooms in places like the Middle East. I don't understand why we don't have that mentality in this country.

The way I see it, two people benefit from it. The cleaner gets paid and the house owner gets a clean house. Do it OP!
