Baby Bumps - should they be covered up?

When I had my bump I loved to wear tight clothes that showed it off. But I drop the line at wearing crop tops.

Whereas I know people who preferred not to show off their bump and worn loose clothing.

AIBU to want to show off my bump?

I suppose it depends on the bump Wink

honeytea · 27/11/2012 18:08

Yanbu. I think pregnant women are a beautiful shape. If you want to dress to show off your bump then go for it!

You can also save money using pre pregnancy clothes, I'm not a fan of the tent like tops you can buy in maternity ranges.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 27/11/2012 18:10

I think the form fitting dresses I've worn through my pg have been the most flattering and make me feel much more feminine than a tent so yanbu.

JollyJock · 27/11/2012 18:11

Bumps should be covered up, but tight tops are acceptable.

Until I was pregnant I always thought that those young pregnant teens hanging around town were making a statement by having their bumps exposed. Now I realise they probably just couldn't afford maternity clothing as normal tops get too short when you're pregnant :(

Show it off if you want to show it off.

Pregnancy is a lovely thing.

If I was not as saggy as I am and it was summer if I had a bump and I wanted to wear hot pants and a crop top then I bloody would and if I fancied it I would team them with a great big orange floppy hat and clogs a d I wouldn't much care what anybody else thought

bondigidum · 27/11/2012 18:21

Covered up.. Unless you're swimming or at the beach then I do not want to see anyones midrift, i'm not bothered whether you are pregnant, chubby or stick thin just put.it.away. It seemed to be a fashion over the summer to have it exposed- why?! Its not exactly an attractive part of the body.

Sorry for anti-crop top rant, just hate them plus they're soo 90s, next it'll be platform trainers making a come back.. or the perm.

I don't mind pregnant ladies wearing tighter clothing or loose clothing really- its whatever they feel comfortable in. I've never worn tight clothing personally so that didn't change when pg. I only wear dresses anyway so have never had the issue with shirts and stuff being exposed and what not.

Rachog · 27/11/2012 18:34

I liked wearing tight clothing when preg, the only time I don't worry about lumps and bumps but I also would draw the line at crop tops.

AThingInYourLife · 27/11/2012 18:37

"AIBU to want to show off my bump?"

I'm not pregnant any more, AIBU to show off mine? :o

pigletmania · 27/11/2012 19:34

Bare bumps in public no no no. Form fitting and close fitting clothes yes yes yes

zlist · 27/11/2012 19:37

Definitely don't want to see any tummy flesh. Close-fitting absolutely fine.

BertieBotts · 27/11/2012 19:42

I remember one time when we were driving back from my grandparents' house and we stopped off at a pub somewhere for some food, there was a young barmaid/waitress who was at that stage of pregnancy where it's obvious you're pregnant, but you don't have a giant bump and stretch marks everywhere, she was wearing a crop top type thing and looked absolutely fine.

I only remember because DM looked at her and said "Ooh, I'm jealous, I wish I'd been brave enough to do that when I was pregnant, I used to get so hot!"

Justforlaughs · 27/11/2012 19:45

I don't really care what other people wear but I wouldn't have been comfortable wearing a crop top, or even tight clothes says the woman who wears jeans on the beach Grin

anewyear · 27/11/2012 19:50

Im not comfortable in tight clothes what ever size I am..

Saying that tho, Im so glad Skinny jeans came back in.....lol

Baby bumps are gorgeous, I like seeing them and I loved showing mine off. There is no need to see skin though, and if your belly button has done anything particularly odd, then it needs to be hidden!
