Christmas baa humbug !

Is it just me or is there someone out there who will be

a. buying a matching bra and knicker set to wear under the
b. special dress they have bought to wear just on christmas day to show off the
c. spray tan they have booked for two days before xmas,
d. the freshly manicured nails,
e. the freshly coloured and cut hair
f. the freshly whitened teeth
g. the new shoes they have bought just for the day (even though they won't be leaving the house)?

It has just occurred to me that all these adverts/emails may actually not be p* takes but are revealing a side of things that I never knew existed.

Obviously I've missed the boat this year as I'm never going to be able to get a hairdresser's appointment for christmas eve, but if I put one of the kids (the more photogenic one) on ebay in the next few days, maybe I can raise the capital to be able to afford everything on the list above...

Not me, I'll be in scruffy holey, non matching pjs eating chocolate and getting fatter. Sorted

I tend to dress a little better for christmas dinner than jeans BUT I don't wear shoes (in the house, WHY?) nor do I buy (or want as a present) any of the things you mentioned.

Yanbu but also yabu - I tend to wear any of the new clothes I've received as a present.

Never in my life had a spray tan though. I don't understand the idea of having one in the winter either!

Alas the car needed 3 tyres to get through the MOT and the oil tank was almost empty so having parted with £750 I think I'll skip the new dress.

Actually, the car's tyres came to more than my wedding dress....

MOT, 3 tyres & oil change £750 - what do you drive, a Ferrari???? I need to have very high speed rated tyres on my car & it wouldn't add up anywhere near that!

But I agree with the sentiment of the original post. If you are having guests then it's nice to dress up a bit maybe, but if you have DCs and/or are cooking for multitudes there's absolutely no point in most of the primping that seems de rigeur (according to these adverts) as it will be wrecked by noon anyway. And at my hairdressers you need to book any appointment in the 3 weeks before Christmas by early-ish November at the latest.

We've all got a Christmas jumper each to wear on Christmas day but no special undies

Oh, and I have a nail appointment just before Christmas, but it's a regular thing and I'll probably be dying my hair as the grey bits can't accurately be described as roots anymore

I have a horror of fake tans. I used to share forum space with fine one who looked like a fucking Oompa Loompa. What is the appeal if bring orange, seriously?

Ah my mistake, read it that it was the CAR's oil tank that was empty! I'm now slightly regretting buying a car that needs tyres that cost £150-175 each just before losing my job........

I did get my hair coloured this weekend (on my normal schedule) as I was doing badger impressions with the white stripe down the middle, and I may well wear smart trousers rather than jeans on the day itself....

I gave birth to my daughter 4 weeks ago, I will be wearing my favourite pre-pregnancy dress, will dye my hair and will be wearing my lovely fluffy slippers!

I have been on a diet for most of the year and am close to target, so will be wearing new (ish) clothes at Christmas and new underwear. This is mainly because my old stuff no longer fits! Not a posh dress though - can't see the point.

Won't be getting my hair done or a spray tan - although I might break open the Johnson's body lotion with the fake tan in!

I alway dress up on Christmas Day, so do all the family on both sides. If I'm wearing nice clothes I like to wear nice undies too and I aways put heels on if I'm in a dress. Spray tan/whitened teeth no but I usually get a Christmas haircut.

I am fairly scruffy most of the time due to the nature of my job so I do like to be smart when I get the chance.

I don't usually by anything new, but as I am carrying a spare half stone from this year's fertility drugs, I bought something I would feel good in rather than uncomfortable. I'll wear it to work afterwards. I won't bother with any of the other things on your list!

Im having my hair cut tomorrow, but it needed it anyway. As for dressing for the day... Im having an ELCS 21st so I imagine dressing for the day will be amounting to a shower, comfy leggings and a long top... Certainly no shoes lovely slobby uggs or slippers! I have a lovely new dress to wear! I get a new christmas dress every year; this one was about £16 including delivery... Not doing the rest of it though. I have learnt to put my hair up in a way which still allows me to wear my new cloche hat (early gift from DP) though, I like it, and we're visiting on Christmas day and I want to be able to wear it.

Wearing jeans is dressing up for me.

Allergictoironing - I think its more a Cruella due Evil look and she is the closest I'll get to a style hero (no fur of course but the shoes, the car...)

Strawberriestastelikelipsdo - how exciting. I had an elective and it was fab. You'll be able to spend Xmas on the sofa nursing, watching telly, eating chocolate and being waited on hand and foot because its what you need to do. Clever you ! Congratulations.

Didireallysaythat - we actually call me getting my hair done "badger culling".
But I like the Cruella De Ville analogy, wish i were that thin & the CLOTHES (bar the furs ofc), the shoes and yes that car! And the money too.....

I will be in my pjs. I might put a bra on underneath in the morning though, only because my dad and mil are coming for dinner.
