I meant in the sense of listening for hours about friends divorce, offering advice, inviting them out for dinner (and paying), putting money in her bank because ExDH is not giving her money as of yet.

I took another friend to the hospital, sat there all day, looked after her at my house for 2 days until she felt better, brought her food and checked in on her every day for a week. I don?t want anything from them but a thank you or a I really appreciate your help would have been nice.

It is annoying. But you/we don't do it for the thanks.

I find "givers" are the best thankers too.
