AIBU to not iron 8 month old's clothes?

LalyRawr · 23/11/2012 20:22

My daughter is 8 months old, I do not and have never ironed her clothes. Frankly I don't see the need, I don't think the clothes look wrinkled or that she looks unkempt. FIL mentioned something about ironing and I said I do not iron the baby's clothes. I then got a rant more appropriate to if I told him I fed her crack for breakfast.

I genuinely do not think I am being unreasonable, but his reaction made me feel like I should?

Though to be fair, he didn't seem so outraged when I bagged up her clothes and gave them to him to iron.

Am I allowed to post pictures of my daughter? If so I'll show a picture of her in her I ironed clothes if that helps?

Sorry for the rambling, but am I being unreasonable?

I don't iron any clothes

2cats2many · 23/11/2012 20:24

YANBU. Life's too short, etc, etc.

A friend of mine irons her DD's underwear. I'll never understand why.

3monkeys3 · 23/11/2012 20:24

YADNBU! I have 3 dc and I iron one of my dd's dresses (that has to be ironed or it looks utterly crap) and shirts for my 2 ds if they need to wear one (for a Christening or similar) and that is it! I only iron a handful of my own clothes too and dh's shirts. Life is too short for ironing - I'd much rather be hanging out with my dc or dh!

user12785 · 23/11/2012 20:25

I don't iron anything, apart from the odd bit of school uniform, and for special occasions eg weddings. So no, YANBU! Ironing is overrated!

picnicbasketcase · 23/11/2012 20:25

No YANBU. I only iron school shirts as everything else looks fine without it, and why would I stand for hours to perform such a thankless task? I certainly never ironed baby clothes, the thought never crossed my mind. As for anyone ranting at you, they are insane. Ironing is something you choose or don't choose to do. It is not in any way a reflection of how well you care for a child.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 23/11/2012 20:25

Iron you say? What is that? :o

I dont iron a single thing. DD1 is never overly wrinkly. If you hang the clothes straight to dry they arent that bad.

YANBU.

BarbecuedBillygoats · 23/11/2012 20:26

I iron ds's shirts, dh irons his shirts
And that is it

I have better things I do with my time

galwaygirl · 23/11/2012 20:26

DD is 17 months and I have never ironed a single item of her clothes. We iron the bare minimum in this house, work trousers and very crumple work tops

I used to iron my ds's clothes..he is nearly 9 months.

Some days he would have clothes on for half an hour before being sick everywhere!

I now tumble dry and fold well. I'm sure he hasn't noticed the difference Grin

JacqueslePeacock · 23/11/2012 20:26

Who in their right minds irons baby clothes???

AllSWornOut · 23/11/2012 20:26

Of course you are NBU and more over you also gave the perfect response Grin

spidermanspiderman · 23/11/2012 20:26

Baby clothes are too small to iron (thats what I say anyway!)

NellyBluth · 23/11/2012 20:27

Nah. I do iron 10mo DD's tops and t-shirts but there's something about the way I wash and hang clothes our washing machine that makes then so ludicrously wrinkled that bits stick up everywhere. And I get embarrassed that she looks such a scruff compared to my CM's other mindees Blush (god that is sad, isn't it?)

But if her clothes looked vaguely presentable unironed I wouldn't do them. I don't iron my clothes. I hate ironing.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 23/11/2012 20:27

I don't even understand WHAT of a baby's clothes you might consider ironing Confused

LalyRawr · 23/11/2012 20:28

Thank God.

I did offer a bag full of her clothes to him to iron and suddenly crack for breakfast didn't seem so bad.

Glad I'm not a horrible mother and didn't realise it!

get FIL to iron them for her My dad used to make my mum iron my little sisters frilly socks, Shock I never ironed my babies clothes ever , I barely iron now

changeforthebetterforObama · 23/11/2012 20:28

Seriously?? Shock

Umm, somebody has a problem. WTAF does it have to do with your FIL anyway? Is he otherwise unhinged?

I iron work clothes. if I have to and the kids' school clothes on school photo day Grin

CitizenOscar · 23/11/2012 20:28

No no no YADNBU

Even my DH who likes ironing has never ironed any of our 17mo DS.

Personally I never iron. Nothing. Stopped buying iron-inducing clothes years ago. DH irons the odd item for me if he can't bear to see me crumpled.

CMOTDibbler · 23/11/2012 20:29

YANBU. Ironing is pointless, and even more so for an 8 month old

Fairylea · 23/11/2012 20:29

I don't iron. Anything.

Life is too short.

CitizenOscar · 23/11/2012 20:30

*ironed any of our 17mo DS's clothes, obviously, he's definitely never ironed any of our DS either Blush

LalyRawr · 23/11/2012 20:31

change he is a bit OCD about stuff like this.

Like last month my dad was in hospital after suffering his 4th heart attack in 2 years. I was out of my mind with worry and PIL's came over to collect the baby so I could go to the hospital.

He had a go at me for not hoovering.

I won't repeat what I said to him.

I never iron anything except dh's shirts for work or clothes for a party/special occasion. If i or my family look scruffy I truly couldn't care less. Who the hell would bother doing baby clothes??
