to ask about fruit shoots?

Have they changed recently? My sister was horrified whenever she saw someone giving them to a child and was very vocal on her opinion that it basically made them a bad parent (not to the parent!) yet she now gues them to her son...Are they suddenly ok? I know MN as a collective don't like them!

The my 5 fruitshoots have more fruit in them and are supposed to be healthier. Or maybe your sister has become less uptight as time has moved on.

Trazzletoes · 22/11/2012 13:03

I don't think there's anything different. Perhaps she has just learned to pick her battles... And not to be so vocal about others' parenting skills...

I'd love it if you asked her why she has changed her opinion though Grin

ClippedPhoenix · 22/11/2012 13:04

Not that I know of, your sister has probably lost her judgy pants Grin

NoTeaForMe · 22/11/2012 13:07

Maybe it's because it's her second child?! though as a second child myself that makes me feel sad If there's one thing I can safely say its that my sister has not lost her judgy pants! They're always pulled very firmly up! Just seems so weird to have done a 180 turn on something she was so adament about!

squeakytoy · 22/11/2012 13:08

they are less harmful than a can of stella...

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 22/11/2012 13:12

It's a bit like reading The Sun...everybody does it but no one admits to it Grin

RyleDup · 22/11/2012 13:13

Must be the my 5 brand of fruitshoot then, designed to make people feel a little bit more smug.

RyleDup · 22/11/2012 13:15

Nah, definitely don't read the sun. Happy to admit to the odd fruitshoot though. Although in rl people don't really seem to care, well the people I mix with anyway. Its only mn that has a problem with fruitshoots and gregs.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 22/11/2012 13:15

I don't get the fruit shoots hysteria. I'd never buy them myself because I think they taste vile and are a waste of money but my mum always has a supply in for visiting grandchildren. They're all still alive and healthy.

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 22/11/2012 13:17

Gregs? What's wrong with Gregs (other than there being none within a million miles of where I live)? Confused

SparkyTGD · 22/11/2012 13:17

The My-5 fruitshoots are just pure juice & water, the other ones are full of crap chemicals.

DownByTheOcean · 22/11/2012 13:18

My 5 fruitshoots don't have aspartame in and are therefore acceptable according to my SIL who previously labelled fruitshoots the devils own.

NoTeaForMe · 22/11/2012 13:20

I would just like to point out that although I have never bought a fruit shoot for my daughter, and don't really intend to, I really don't care whether other people do. Sure they're not the best thing for them to have, but there's a lot worse! It's just my sister buying them surprises me after she was so full of hate and judgy pants about them!

Hmm...maybe they were the my5 ones then. He was drinking one in a purple bottle though, aren't they the original ones. Aren't the my5 ones in a clear bottle now I think about it?!

OP posts:
RyleDup · 22/11/2012 13:24

Fruit shoots are a bit crap, but the spouts are easier to drink from for younger children, when you've gone out and forgotten to take a sippy cup for your child.

mrskeithrichards · 22/11/2012 13:26

They are just so fucking expensive! I'd buy one, once in a blue moon and re use the bottle as they were handy.

Trazzletoes · 22/11/2012 13:27

Flamin, a couple of weeks ago, DS (3) had, er, 3(!) Greggs sausage rolls in one day so I THINK you'll find that's my award you've got there Grin.

In my defence, he's poorly and the Doctors told me to get whatever calories I could in to him... It was all he would eat, m'lud!

RyleDup · 22/11/2012 13:27

Ooh yes, sounds like an original one. You need to ask her Grin

NoTeaForMe · 22/11/2012 13:27

Agreed Ryle , though some small bottles of mineral water have this spout too but my sister had them at the house to take out, they weren't bought as a last minute 'oh shit we haven't brought his drink with us' thing.

OP posts:
RyleDup · 22/11/2012 13:38

Hehe, I know mineral water has that spout, although in my defence, our local soft play doesn't sell them. Although they have just started selling the my 5, so now I can feel smug. Your sister on the other hand is heading down a slippery slope, thats for sure. Grin

NoTeaForMe · 22/11/2012 13:41

Ha...maybe I'll find a way to ask her. We're not very close so not sure how I could drop it into conversation!

OP posts:
NoTeaForMe · 22/11/2012 13:43

Whoops... When I say we're not that close I mean geographically we don't live close to each other. So to randomly ask on the phone about fruit shoots would be weird! I'd have to see her and see her son drinking one and ask her that way I think!

OP posts:
RyleDup · 22/11/2012 13:48

What makes you suspect her child has been drinking the devils concoction anyway? If you've seen with your own eyes, you can just ask her outright.

NoTeaForMe · 22/11/2012 13:53

He has, last time we were at hers he had some. I didn't ask her then though. Don't know why really!

Startail · 22/11/2012 13:59

DD2 point blank refuses to drink water, cartons of juice are tiny and while she likes Coke, I think fruit shots are marginally betterWink
