DH and I escaped to the cunema today.

As we were quite late we arrived after the showing had started, but still in tine for the Main Feature.

There were 2 queues to the 2 ticket sellers, so I joined one and DH joined the other, to maximise our chances of actually getting in there in time.

It became obvious that DH was going to reach the counter beforr me, so I newly sidestepped to join him.

Cue disgusted looks from the people behind him and the people who were behind me actually started saying that it was rude and selfish ti join 2 queues when we were obviously together. (I paraphrase Wink)

So AIBU?

The couple behind me actually got to the front quicker than they had anticipated, and the couple behind DH were no more inconvenienced at all.

Fecking Logic Bypass at its best.

That's weird. Confused They were probably just wishing they'd thought of doing the same thing. Or jealous because they have to go to the cinema on their own which makes them feel lonely and inadequate.

YANBU.

TinyDancingHoofer · 21/11/2012 20:33

Erm... the only downside i can think of is if everyone did this, then some people would skip the film. They might think the queue is 20minutes long instead of 10minutes and that they would miss their film so not bother going? I dunno, some people like a good moan about strangers.

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 21/11/2012 20:33

YANBU very sensible queue strategy. I hate passive aggressive whingers.

LadyBeagle · 21/11/2012 20:33

What film was it?

It does feel a bit like cheating, or misleading people, I don't know. I guess if everyone did it the queues would look twice as long. Maybe it'd put people off going, dunno.

TessCowDirect · 21/11/2012 20:34

YANBU but perhaps take a flowchart out with you next time to demonstrate how the queuing system works. Grin

Tee2072 · 21/11/2012 20:35

My mom and I used to do that at the supermarket. Makes perfect sense to me.

Trills · 21/11/2012 21:16

The people in the queue you vacated were better off than they thought they were.

The people in the queue you joined were no worse off than they thought they were, because presumably you and DH paid together.

If the two tills were exactly the same then there should have only been one queue anyway.

Trills · 21/11/2012 21:16

I do sometimes tell people at the train station that they are doing it wrong.

Trills · 21/11/2012 21:21

So you picked your snacks based on which queue moved faster?

Maybe you messed up someone else's day for them.

I wanted to get icecream but DH wanted to get popcorn, we said when we got there we'd see which queue was shorter. Only a woman ahead of us made it look like the icecream queue was longer than it was and then defected into the popcorn queue. AIBU to think she is evil and has deprived me of my icecream?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 21/11/2012 21:21

Oh that is not sensical.

They both sell tickets, the goodies available vary between positins.

Bearing in mind the mad rush there will be in the shops (never mind the Christmas food shop due next month) I don't think there is any queue etiquette anywhere anymore.

It's every person for themselves, be it at the cunema or wherever. Grin
