I also have 2 bloody dogs that bark when the door is knocked.

So why do I now have a slip through the door telling me I wss out?

And now I have to go and collect my parcel.

Bastards.

I sympathise.

(although, two barking dogs would put me off........

hides behind laptop).

noisytoys · 21/11/2012 13:01

They don't even try to deliver here they just pop a card through the door saying 'we've got something for you'. I think everyone who posts to here should get a reduction in postage fees because the whole service isn't being provided

cozietoesie · 21/11/2012 13:02

Sometimes, they fill in the slips at the Sorting Office and only take those with them and not the parcels. Infuriating and quite quite wrong - if understandable in a heavily built up area (eg lots of flats or tenements) where most of the population are at work all day.

Speak to the SO manager when you go down.

Hemlet · 21/11/2012 13:02

That almost happened to me the other day - luckily I clocked the postie kneeling down and writing out the card before he'd knocked. My Husband and I work full time so I expect he's just used to no-one being in from 8.00, but still..

I opened the door just as he was about to post the slip through and said 'Oh I'm sorry, I didn't hear you knock' with a massive sickly grin on my face. He had the audacity to give me a dirty look and pulled the parcel out and gave it to me.

Plebbo.

freddiefrog · 21/11/2012 13:03

It happens here loads too

It's because they don't have the parcel on them in the first place

I caught our postman red handed last year. I was outside in the porch so he had to hand it straight to me

BarbaraWoodlouse · 21/11/2012 13:03

I nearly leapt out of my skin the other day when a parcel was suddenly pushed though our back door cat flap. They definitely didn't knock first. The cat flap is locked so nearly broke when it was forced by the delivery man who totally failed to see the problem.

ReindeerBollocks · 21/11/2012 13:04

Our postie always delivers parcels. However I have this problem most with distribution companies who don't knock. Goodness knows why as they have the stuff in the van!

5alive4life · 21/11/2012 13:19

Yep caught my postman doing this on sat. He said we are never in so he doesnt bother. I said we work mon-fri and ive paid for a sat delivery and no i can not go to the sorting office its a big parcel and i dont have a car! It came in the afternoon :)

TheCrackFox · 21/11/2012 13:20

This has happened to me loads - it really pisses me off.

BlueberryHill · 21/11/2012 13:24

At least you get a slip, I've been in waiting for parcels, checked on line and apparently they have been delivered. I had to go knocking on all the neighbours doors to find out who it had been delivered to.

In fairness, our house doesn't have a number, just a name that doesn't come up on online ordering. However I always leave instructions about delivery and say, "No number but it is [name of house].

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 21/11/2012 13:24

We get this all the time! I only half blame the postie, they are on terribly tight schedules, but on the other hand, its bloody annoying when you know you were in, the doorbell is working and the dog is on full alert, and they still didnt deliver your parcel! Sad

lisad123 · 21/11/2012 13:26

They did this with dh chemo delivery (not RM by the way) and they got a nasty call!

ProbationProbationProbation · 21/11/2012 13:41

Hermes, the shittest possible delivery service not maker of bloody expensive bags are always bending me over like this. They also don't have a decent complaints line, you have to go through the company you ordered from (when it's not really their fault idiots deliver their parcels).
I also used to work in a mobile carrier call centre and had call after call about DPD doing the same thing when delivering replacement phones, especially on a Friday afternoon!!

maddening · 21/11/2012 14:31

Well we had the same issue with parcel force on a saturday when we were in at 7.30am - when I said about it to the next delivery guy in the week he said he was self employed and only paid once he delivered but the self employed chaps are not allowed to work on a Saturday - the chap on the Saturday would have been paid a salary so obviously just pops cards through letterboxes to get his Saturday shift out of the way!

Fakebook · 21/11/2012 14:33

It's raining. I bet they left the parcel at the depot.

nickelrocketgoBooooooom · 21/11/2012 14:34

they also told everyone about this - often, they can't take the packet out with them - too heavy or too bulky or not enough posties to cover the rounds that day don't get me started on managers who deliver on regulars' days off and don't take the packets because they're not counted in the stats so they changed the form to "we've got something for you" mainly to stop this kind of discussion where you say "i was in!"
