AIBU in not getting this remark about battered wives

Browsing Yahoo this morning as I drank my tea and they had top 10 best plum lipsticks. Was going through and saw a comment " For battered wives who need a colour to go with their black eye". I found this in bad taste and responded and was told that I did not get the joke, remark was innocuous, I must be stupid to not know how to read words and work how they mean. I really am struggling to see the joke and most of my remarks have been removed as low rating (why? I guess I am saying jokes about abused women in bad taste ??) However am I missing the point and being a tw@ (his words not mine) or do you think in bad taste.

I 'get' the joke. But it's offensive and not funny. It's very bad taste and the guy is being a twat.

I think we all 'get' it, but it is not funny and says a lot about attitudes to domestic violence and women. I am sure there was a bit in the media about this sort of joke a few weeks ago. Classic example.

Don't comment on yahoo, there are lots of trolls with multiple accounts that make twatty comments and then go and give themselves thumbs up and everyone being reasonable and rational thumbs downs. Clearly nothing better to do with their lives.
