to pay more than the RRP for a second hand mini micro scooter on ebay?

I'm not sure if I'm being silly about this. WOuld love some opinions on this very trivial dilemma!

Want to get DD is a mini micro scooter. DS has the blue one, I don't want to get the pink one for DD as I don't really want the DCs thinking blue is for boys and pink is for girls, plus DD's coat is pure pink so would be far too much pinkness when she is scootering. I don't want to get another blue one either (i love DS's blue one, but I just don't want another one the same...I know I know I'm so over thinking this). Don't like the neon multicoloured ones either.

So on Ebay there is a green mini micro which is gorgeous, used but in VGC. Seller willing to sell it to me for £55 including P&P, which is more than the price of getting either a blue one for a pink one brand new.

Am I mad to conside buying this second hand one for more than I have to pay for a new one??

Give the blue mini mirco to DD and get DS the next one up in black/purple/orange/red or whatever colour you like.

thereinmadnesslies · 20/11/2012 23:04

Another thought - how old is your DS? The maxi micro scooter at its lowest height is the same height as the micro scooter. If you think you will be using the scooters for the next few years would it be more cost effective to upgrade your DS to a Maxi, then buy replacement parts to pimp your existing micro scooter for your DD??

thereinmadnesslies · 20/11/2012 23:04

Holy snap Grin

numbum · 20/11/2012 23:06

black and red looks nice!

HolyBrrrrrrBatman · 20/11/2012 23:06

Grin great minds therein

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/11/2012 23:09

You are off your fucking rocker!

choceyes · 20/11/2012 23:11

marriedinwhite - she is only 2.3yrs, so I don't think she has a preference Grin

DS is just turned 4yrs but he is quite short for his age, so I worry that the maxi scooter would be too big for him, otherwise yes that is an option. I know it's the same height, but it's a bit wider too. COuld he get used to it?

numbum - when I first clicked on your link, I was Shock at the price, but then realised it's not actually a mini micro! Wish it was though.

Then get her a cheap 2nd hand one so that not too much money is spent before your ds can upgrade.

DialsMavis · 20/11/2012 23:18

I had this angst 2 weeks ago before DDs 2nd birthday! I didn't want to automatically get pink, couldn't really afford to spend even more on a different colour, but didn't want to get blue and have her potentially hate when she is 4 and possibly one of those pink obsessed little girls.i also couldn't believe how much £££ they go for 2nd hand in fairly ropey condition! My dilemma was solved when I found a pink one in mint condition in Cash Converters for £10!! My bargain of the year SmileWink

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 20/11/2012 23:18

So, she has a totally PINK coat, but she can't have a pink scooter, even though it's the obvious, cheaper and easiest solution? Talk about mad.

HolyBrrrrrrBatman · 20/11/2012 23:19

I think he'd probably be fine with the next one up, it's a bit heavier and slightly wider probably, but otherwise much the same.

At 2.3 years DD isn't going to be doing that much scooting anyway I wouldn't have thought, so maybe get them to share for a few months and then give her the little one and get DS a big one. When is his birthday? Could you wait until then?

DialsMavis · 20/11/2012 23:20

By the way: green ones are not rare round here...

MacaroniAndWalnut · 20/11/2012 23:20

I bought an all over yellow one from their site. They had other colours

tutu100 · 20/11/2012 23:24

The maxi scooter handle on it's lowest setting is the same height as the mini micro handle. We have both. My ds2 who is just about to turn 4 can use his older brother's maxi scooter fine. In fact he actually now prefers it which is a problem as I am not shelling out for another maxi!

cornflowers · 20/11/2012 23:26

My dd2 is 2, almost three, small for her age & has a mini micro (green, as it happens). She also has no trouble riding her older sister's maxi around the garden etc so a maxi should be fine for your 4yo.

choceyes · 20/11/2012 23:31

The colour of her coat wasn't really my choice. I found a nearly new mini boden wool duffle coat for £8 in the charity shop, new one would have been £55. Even though I dont' particularly like pink, i coulnd't pass on that kind of bargain. And it is big enough for her to wear next year too!

hhmm I'm not waivering towards waiting a while and getting the bigger one for DS. Definitely not paying £55 for the second hand one though. Thanks for the overwhelming AIBU response. I am mad, and now it has been confirmed!

Oh no, makes mental note to make sure my dd1 doesn't wear blue on her scooter, or dd2 wear pink on her scooter or ds green on his second hand 25 quid mini micro scooter. Hadn't realised this was another MN faux pas. Can totally see now that pink coat on pink scooter would be 'far too much pinkness' no actually still can't .

Get whichever one isn't too overpriced. She'll probably want pink or blue like her brother.

ouryve · 20/11/2012 23:35

It's a bloody scooter. Get over it.

Fakebook · 20/11/2012 23:36

Anyone would think you're buying the scooter for yourself Confused

LittleEdie · 20/11/2012 23:43

The green one is £99 on John Lewis.

cunexttuesonline · 20/11/2012 23:43

The pink one doesn't look too pink in the photo, it's just the foot bit and looks a bit purpley? I'd go for that.

Cahooots · 20/11/2012 23:48

OP you are being a bit of a loon but you have admitted it so that is ok And I think hope this thread is lighthearted Grin

You are really, really , really overthinking things. Give your DD the choice between two cheap and easily available scooters and buy whatever she wants. Then let her decorate it.

Want to get DD is a mini micro scooter. DS has the blue one, I don't want to get the pink one for DD as I don't really want the DCs thinking blue is for boys and pink is for girls

So you don't want the dcs being 'sterotyped' but the boy has a blue one ? ......ih wait.....

Tbh it angers me when I constantly hear about parents overthinking every little thing following the latest thing to get worked up about whatever happened to being happy ? If she'd like a pink one, get her one. It's only a sodding colour, your bra won't spontaneously combust because she happens to be a girl and it's pink.

LittleEdie · 21/11/2012 00:09

Am totally with you on the green one. Desperate to get DD a bright green hat to counter the pink.

pigletmania · 21/11/2012 00:12

Yabu it's only a colour; just go for the JL one
