A local little girl has been seriously ill (intensive care, the works. I went to a social function last night where all anyone did was bitch about her mother.

This really saddened me as I would have thought whatever the mum's background, recent events would have prompted compassion from other mums, not continued bitching.

Am I being a sentimental fool?

I suppose it depends on what the bitching was - so 'she's an ugly fat cow' is just wrong, whereas 'she didn't take the child to the doctor when she was really sick and that made her condition worse' would be more gossipy than bitching.

I hope they were at least sympathetic to the child.
