Does everybody else hate driving in the dark?

My journey home from work involves some country roads - in the light I love the drive, but after dark I find it so scary. Today someone over took me, so I was probably driving like an OAP. I feel bad that I'm probably holding everyone up - in the day time I get irritated by slow drivers.

How long til it starts getting light after 5?

I also drive along country roads but feel a lot safer driving at night as I can see the other car lights.

I hate driving in the dark. I feel as though I lose all sense of distance and the lights dazzle me. Love daytime driving on nice motorways. That's the most fun.

AnyaKnowIt · 19/11/2012 20:30

I prefer driving in the dark

wonderstuff · 19/11/2012 20:32

Yes I find the lights dazzling - I wear glasses and wonder if that is part of the problem - I have the special coating they con you into but it doesn't seem to help.

I like it but it makes me quite on edge - like a rollercoaster!! I know this because when I park up after a night time journey on windy country lanes my jaw aches from where I have been clenching it!

stargirl1701 · 19/11/2012 20:33

It doesn't bother me. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE driving.

FutTheShuckUp · 19/11/2012 20:35

Same as you OP- I dawdle along in the dark and am a very nervous driver but in day time I am usually the impatient overtaker

Itsjustafleshwound · 19/11/2012 20:36

Even though I live in a big town, I hate night time driving and find it so harder to judge distance and car headlights just adds to the stress.

EricNorthmanIsMyMaker · 19/11/2012 20:39

As Wonderstuff said. I hate it & put it down to lights glaring off my glasses.

GreenyEyes · 19/11/2012 20:44

I don't mind driving in the dark at all, but I'm not keen on driving in the 'half light' at dusk at this time of year.

Everything seems to have a greyish-orangey cast Hmm to it and cars seem to appear out of nowhere.

I sound very safe don't I Grin

nannyl · 19/11/2012 20:44

i too hate driving in the dark

wonderstuff · 19/11/2012 20:47

I hate it too, I just feel like I can't see properly!

bureni · 19/11/2012 20:50

My only problem with night driving are those horrible projector headlights that are being fitted to cars nowadays, they blind you even when dipped.

EuroShagmore · 19/11/2012 20:50

I like driving in the dark. My only problem with it is that I drive a low car and the lights from 4x4s and lorries completely dazzle me.

Thank God I'm not the only one! My dd (11) knows not to talk to me when we drive home from swimming lessons in the dark, we have never spoke about but I think she must sense my anxiety.

FamiliesShareGerms · 19/11/2012 20:53

I like driving in the dark. Hate the twilight when it's not obvious whether or not to use side lights

ThePathanKhansWitch · 19/11/2012 20:56

I hate it, but then again, i,m Mrs Magoo at rhe best of times.
