to report someone for drink driving

We live in a village. I'm anti drink driving but alot of people round here still do it including some friends of mine.

Anyway today someone has upset my 2 and a half year old for a totally pathetic reason just being vendictive to a 2 and a half year old when they are alot older, even older than me!

Its been brewing for a while just little comments but this has really wound me up.

Anyway said person drinks and drives every day, sometimes he is prob not over the limit but on other days he definately is.

Was thinking of reporting him for drink driving but really the reason i would be doing it would be because he has upset my son not because i would usually report a person for drink driving. I don't report others that do it but would tell them i don't agree.

Makes me sound really PFB which i'm not usually but this feels like the final straw was totally pathetic, think along the line of 2.5 years old lining up toys and counting them then grown man knocking them down on purpose and laughing, totally pathetic but a big thing to a two and a half year old.

Think a need to sleep on it and calm down.........

YABU for not normally reporting drink drivers.

How could you justify not reporting the drink drivers, your friends included if they killed or hurt someone?

Were you able to say anything to the oaf when he knocked your child's toys down? What a complete twat - for doing that and for drinking and driving.

You would be well within reasonable grounds to report him for drink driving, but don't link the two things. That's silly and petulant on your part.

On the whole, though, I reckon YANBU.

YANBU to report a drink driver. Doing it because he's annoyed you for some reason seems a little odd, I think you should be doing it anyway. For the reason that he might kill somebody.

Report him! It could be your 2yr old he's knocking over with a car when drunk rather than just his toys. You should have done this a long time ago!

Your motives are a little questionable, however, a drunken driver is a potential murderer.

Think of it this way, would you want to drive with your children in the car, knowing he was around the same roads? Your motives may be poor but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. Please report him the next time you believe he is driving while over the limit.

While I'm not saying this applies to you, I can't help but feel that there's a very queer attitude to reporting drink drivers among many people. Maybe it's because people are more aware of the legal system but there seems to be this underlying thought that drink driving once doesn't deserve all the fuss of prosecution, a criminal record, fines and more. "Oh, they only did it once, I don't want them to get into all that trouble". It makes me incredibly uneasy at how easily it gets normalised.

I would never dream of drink driving but i suppose it comes of being brought up in the country that some people, particularly older males (but not just them) think nothing of it.

When i say drink driving he's not drunk as such but would be over limit, so probably had 4 or 5 pints

YABU to have not reported it before. Drink driving is unacceptable regardless of how nice/horrible the culprit is to your 2 year old.

Sounds like someone you know quite well if they are getting that close to your son playing. To be fair, it's the type of thing my dad has done in the past - being an idiot with kids and drink driving. If that's the case it's a tough position to be in. But should still be reported. Even if you do it anonymously.

We were fairly rural too, and I can't stand that it was so accepted although shamefully it bothered me less before i had ds. I could not sleep at night if I knew it was happening and that if something bad happened i would consider myself morally culpable as i didn't do anything to stop it. THERE IS NO EXCUSE -NONE for drink driving. Your reasons for doing it are shit but do anyway-he's an arsehole and you can redeem yourself a bit.
