Haven't been out for country pub lunch for a while, and am a bit surprise that the standard price for a burger and chips in a nice pub seems to be £11-13...is that a bit much or have I just lost track of inflation? You can get a proper plate dish for £13-18 which is understandable, but burgers at £12...?

LauriesFairy - I haven't stopped thinking about burgers since yesterday Grin. I am about to persuade DH that we need to go out for lunch so I order the burger I described. He will probably be surprised that I am thinking about burgers so early in the morning!

They're your pounds too ifancy Grin they'd never get any of mine for just a burger!

I can get a veggie burger here for about £2. Win, I think.

I see your £12 burger and raise you the £4 can of Coke I saw on the menu in a cafe in Harrods last week!

mumsfretter · 17/11/2012 10:59

I see your can of coke for £4 and raise you a "healthy breakfast" consisting of a bowl of porridge and some fruit with yoghurt for ........£19.50!!!! London Hotel we visited recently.

crazycanuck · 17/11/2012 11:06

Shock crikey!

I think we have been living in London too long. £11 for a burger/ chips etc, and £4 coke seem average to me now.

I do LOVE visiting my parents though! Last time we went down we went to a bar and I was paying for a round of drinks ( i think 5 people), and the total for 5, was easily the same as 1/2 people in London! I think I had a spiced run and coke for £9.50 in my local pub recently, it's was £2.50 in Kent! My mother almost keels over at the price of water on London ( but actually doesn't seem to notice as much now se has visited lots)

£4 for a can of Coke is ludicrous ! May as well go for a glass of wine, it won't be much more and is actually healthier.

In our local on a Wednesday you get, burger chips and a pint of lager for £5.95.

Any other time burger and chips is £4.95.

At the best pub in town it's about £7

crazycanuck · 17/11/2012 12:35

RichTeas I was going to go for the wine, till I saw it was £9 a glass!

ifancyashandy · 17/11/2012 12:35

quirrel I didn't pay - it was a date! I win!

SamanthaStormer · 17/11/2012 13:27

£9 for a glass of wine?! £4 for a can of coke?! faints
Seriously glad I don't live in London, that's ridiculous!! Approx £1.60 a coke in a pub/restaurant here, or £2.50 for a large glass of wine!

shockers · 17/11/2012 13:50

Pipers restaurant in Garstang, nr Lancaster does amazing burger and fat chips (which I normally detest, but theirs are gorgeous!), on the lunchtime menu. My favourite is the one with the local blue cheese and a big mushroom.

I want one now.... right now.

With a strawberry milkshake.

(That would probably set me back about £14 with the milkshake, but it's worth it.)

RichTeas · 17/11/2012 21:06

Canuck, I can only guess those are Harrods prices aimed at tourists. I imagine the Dorchester or other five stars might be up at that level, but it's a bit much for a cafe at the greengrocers!
