Cuthbert? I am yet to find anyone else that likes the name

I love Bertie but Cuthbert is a name made for bullying in later years I'm sorry to say.

meddie · 16/11/2012 07:56

If you like Bertie why not just call him Bertie, Cuthbert is just asking for a hard time from other children.

I'd say no as a first name. But that's because my husband and I have a penchant for unusual traditional names and I had to draw the line at aloysius as a first name. So ds1 had it as a second name. We also have Excalibur as a middle name for ds2. Dd2's middle name is temperance as I wasn't brave enough to have it as a first name. I really wanted St. John as a middle name for either Ds so that's still on the list for maybe another time. I'd suggest finding a name you like as a first name, and go crazy for the middle ones. That way you still have your choice, but your son doesn't feel when he gets older that perhaps his parents didn't like him! I'd also suggest perhaps cuthbert as his legal name and using a middle name as his given name (seems to be the done thing on my day's side of the family). But that might just get confusing.

Is this actually the best you can do, name-wise?

AlistairSim · 16/11/2012 08:34

I really like it.

YankeeAlphaBravoUniform · 16/11/2012 08:38

Bertie is cute-ish, but Cuthbert is not due a revival IMHO

LessMissAbs · 16/11/2012 08:39

I love it - its sort of Anglo-Saxon. Its memorable, but not in a trashy way.

valiumredhead · 16/11/2012 08:41

I like it, unusual but not so unusual no one has ever heard of it.

Scheherezade · 16/11/2012 08:44

But Excalibur isn't a name? Wasn't it a mythological sword? Might aswell call your child focus, or golf, or prius.

NotGoodNotBad · 16/11/2012 08:47

Ha ha ha ha ha ha Grin.

IneedAsockamnesty · 16/11/2012 08:47

I have one but he goes by Bertie. There is also one other boy at his school with the same name
