if you had gone half an hour away on the train, also a 20 minish walk from your house with a newborn and 18 month old in a double pram and a 3 year old walking

if your pram broke when you were just heading back to the train station with your shopping , no one else is available to help you, its 4 hours until your husband finishes work near homen and you have a child at school that needs picking up in 3 hours...

would you consider this an emergency and ring your husband at work?

just to clarify, the other train station is a 20 min walk from the house so the entire journey is around 50 mins

I'd get a taxi first and then ring dh depending on how far away he worked.

Would also try any local friends likely to be home first too.
Once other avenues exhausted then yes I'd ring.

I wouldn't say it was an emergency as such, a shitty situation perhaps.

I'd ring him but I wouldn't expect him to come and pick me up, unless it was possible on his lunch hour.

I would call and taxi and I would assess, when I were at home whether I needed him to go and get the older DC from school.

Depends on how nice your DH's work are though, if I were in that situation there's no way I would be able to call DH and ask him to leave work. Take the fact your DH works near home out of the equation, WWYD if he wasn't able to collect you and the DC's?

Its not an emergency unless you could not get a cab.

Also depends on his job. For example if he was a surgeon and had to cancel an operation (extreme I know) and you didn't think to call a cab. Then I would be pissed.

If a wheel came off I'd try pulling it and walking both kids... Slow but should make it in 3 hours

If totally knackered and it couldn't be dragged id probably ring him

My DH isn't one of the emergency services. I'd ring him just to ask advice on it and hope he offered a lift

I'd ring dh to talk it through and work out options rather than say 'come pick me up' but then dh works 2 hours drive away. in good traffic so would be pretty useless!

Was your dh you last or first port of call.

I am quite lucky. Dh works for himself and can pop out whenever he need. But when I was employed it wasn't possible, to just pop out.

Yes. If I couldn't get a taxi, I would. How do you get 3 small children home with no working pram? And where do you leave the pram? It's not physically possible to hold a newborn and an 18month old and hold on to a three year old and drag a broken pram for a 20 minute walk, onto a train and then another 20 minute walk!

Only if you have no other option. Would a taxi for a 50 min journey be affordable? If not, and you have no-one else to phone who is not at work, then yes.

You can't carry two babies & hold on to a 3 year old for very long I shouldn't think.

Would you be able to secure your 18 month and baby in a taxi? If so get a taxi. If not and you really have no one then you will have to phone him

I think that does merit calling your DH at work. Let him make the call whether to come and get you or call a taxi for you depending on whether he can reasonably get away. Hope you get home OK. I remember struggling home with a 1 and 3 year old when my pushchair with body board broke and it was a nightmare even though only about 20 min walk.

Could you get to a Tesco or Asda? They sell very cheap strollers and slings/carriers.

If the other person thought this was not an emergency, I'd chuck the kids, shopping and pram at them and tell them to walk into town!
