to think this ad is a windup/dodgy

replied to an ad looking for someone to come and clean their apartment a couple of days a week. they said send their cv which i did, never heard back. i chased them up and got sent this email:

Thanks for the response to my ad,it shows your seriousness you have about the job.i live at area of ..........And i always constantly out of town.I am an Architect.I will return home in December 21 so this process will be on going till then.I will pay you £ 300 in a weekly?aside from the money that you need for the errands that you will be doing for me .My lawyer will be sending you a bank daft for the payment weekly that you will need for the errand ok I will email you the list and pictures of what to shop for when I am ready.No heavy packages is involved! You can do the shopping at Tesco, Asda, Argos,You will be shopping for household items, Electronics,clothing and bibles. I will provide you my UPS account number for Shipping.. All you have to do is provide my account number to UPS and shipping charges will be applied into the account..I will provide clear set of instructions for each task I need done as well the funds to cover them.. If I were to mail you bank draft payment to do my errands plus upfront payment for your service,how should your name appear on the Bank draft?

Kindly provide the information for payment.

It'll be something along the lines of sending you money then asking for it back and when you transfer it back their payment will fail to clear so you pay them.

You will have to buy stuff before the money has cleared probably and then the 'payment' will bounce.

or it will be money laundering.

They've not asked for details though because people get suspicious about that even though there's very little someone can do with your sort code and account number. They are on your card and cheque book!

I bet the bankers draft will turn out to be fake. The bank will reclaim the money and you'll be stuck with the bill.

It is clearly a scam such as money laundering/computer hacking or something. Do not under any circumstances do this! Delete email immediately and do not respond to future emails - they may get into your computer system and access your bank details. you might want to contact the police/trading standards or somebody as it may be somethinig which is already known to them.

ive deleted their emails. its so frustrating when you are genuinely trying to find a job and you come across these scams. i learnt my lesson the hard way (doing kleeneze catalogues!) that you never ever pay out money to make money in anything! (unless of course, you are starting your OWN business!)

The strange phrasing ("this process", etc) does suggest it's a classic Nigerian type scam. Also the talk if bibles Avoid!

Hec has it in one. Someone tried this with a photoshoot and my DH. Sent a fake bankers draft and told him to pay the makeup artist out of it. That set of bells for us and we investigated it and found the scam about fake bankers drafts.

By the time you've be told it's fake and the money is taken back from you, you've already shelled out and send off what he wants.

Laundering. Tax dodge. Avoid like the plague.
