To think the school are being a bit crap about lost PE kit?

My 5 year old (year one) was sent to school after half term with the required pe kit of white t shirt, black shorts, black pumps in a back pack - all with his name on.
After the first week he had lost the t shirt I didnt have another white one s i gave him a blue one which the school complained about because it wasnt white. He has now lost the WHOLE bag somewhere in school. So now the school are expecting me to replace the whole set again. I think that since it was lost at school he should just be able to wear what i have in the house at least until after christmas. I have only just bought the sodding kit, I just feel like over reacting and I am normally the queen of UNDER reaction.

AIBU to send him with a t shirt and shorts from his wardrobe - sod the colour and when the school complain just tell them to find the set I already gave him?

HavE you been into school to have a hunt round in lost property?

Maybe you need to tell your child to be more careful.

I am sure asda or any other supermarket would have all those items for less than a fiver in total anyway.

Sympathies - this has happened twice with my dd last year and once last term (and she's 9 yrs I'm afraid!). Grudgingly replaced gym t-shirt and school jumper at vast expense only to have them returned to us in bag at end of term (having previously pleaded, sent letters, and eventually searched myself). It annoys me that they were there all the time [harrumph]

Agree with MrsRobert that an early hands-on search by yourself at pick-up time may pay dividends!!

PS It has to be said that it is a lot less stressful now we have duplicates but silly waste of expense really when she is growing so fast.

You have my sympathy. I have found the only way to avoid losing pe kit at least once a term is to staple it onto your children. Dd lost 2 sets and a pair of trainers last week. One set turned up in class today, the other set and the trainers is still missing.

I know it's only cheap to replace but in just feeling hard done by .
I have looked in lost property it didn't seem to be there.
I just wish I could grab any of his others many t shirts etc rather than having to get special ones. It might make it less likely to get lost if all the kits and bags were not exactly the same especially as my ds can't even read his name yet!

I'm getting a bit obsessed about my 5yo's PE bag now, in surreptitiously checking the contents almost every day;

My son keeps accidentally swapping t-shirts with other classmates, thing is the t-shirts he keeps ending up with are old and tatty and his is new. WHY DO I EVEN CARE ABOUT THIS??

I could twat myself, what does it matter really, it's purely for PE time, I don't even have to see him in it, so as long as he has one, why does it bother me that it's not his??

Another place to looks ( speaks from bitter experience) is on other childrens' pegs or in the melee that lies beneath pegs. Also the hall or wherever they do pe.
Dd is 16 and still loses pe kit, but now has to pay for it herself.

i find writing the childs name in permenant pen on the chest helped stop it disappearing too. There was a time when if one child forgot something then they would just take it out of whichever bag was nearest.

Try looking for it yourself. The children get changed in the class and have to return their kits to their own peg. I often see children just throwing it in the direction of the pegs or putting it down somewhere on their way out at the end of the day. We do our best but keeping on top of pe kits is time consuming and your kids have to learn to look after their kit. Some kids never loose theirs!

You need to go and look for it yourself, preferably before school starts when the cloakroom is clear. It will be on someone else's peg but your child won't be able to find it underneath all the stuff.

Now if you could point me in the direction of my daughter's brand new, named football boots I would be very grateful. (I have checked the cloakroom!)

You may feel like sending them in something non-uniform out of principle. Thing is (if anything like ds's school) the teachers speak to the children and it's them that are made to feel uncomfortable. This pees me off when it is not the child's fault what their parents send them in. I'd rather my ds was not singled out because of this.

If its any help - DS lost his PE kit in Y7.... dunno how as its monogrammed - he got it back, last day of y11 - didnt fit of course sigh.... but he's been wearing 'RW's monogrammed shorts since Y7 - so I have no idea if RWs mother feels as aggrieved as I do or why none ofhem ever swapped back .
