that you can keep breast milk in fridge for 3 days yet formula has to be made up and used immediately. (Even though 8 years ago it was ok to make up formula in advance.)
Could this be an underhand way to make bottle feeding more difficult or am I too cynical?

Breast milk is a natural substance. Formula is created and not sterile.

Its not wierd, its because breast milk is natural and full of anti bodies and natural bacteria.

yes because formula manufacturers want their product to be harder to use so people wont buy it

or maybe they just want the babies to be safe? lawsuits aren't good publicity.

I haven't heard of a lot of babies dying of food poisoning after BM. They do sometimes after badly prepared or stored F. Could that be why? Also, BM is made in my breasts, on the spot as it were. F is made in a factory then shipped to shops, then sits on a shelf, then comes to my house, then is made up. I want to make sure it is safe.

Or maybe they want it to run out quicker so you buy more?

I thought current advice was 24hours in fridge for bm?

whether you are making it up in advance and storing it in the fridge or making it up and using it straight away you're still using the same amount. how would it benefit the manufacturer?

20 years ago I thought the advice was to use formula immediately - I obviously missed the bit where you could make it in advance , and as for storing breast milk, I could never express it in the first place. My best advice for using formula is to take a bottle of boiling water out with you and the measured powder seperately, by the time you come to make it up the water will be the right temperature (or just buy a small carton), does anyone know why they stopped making the individual portions of powder? They were great.

Breast milk is 'live', that's the difference.

Probably because it encouraged people to mix it with cold water, Ithink :(

do you mean the right temperature to sterilise the powder or the right temperature to feed the baby? am i right in thinking that feeding temperature wouldn't be hot enough to sterilise it?
