feeling rather crap about this.

DS has been hitting his sister most of the day, so around 7 i snapped and put him to bed early.

was this an over reaction, i don't like the kids going to bed upset

How old? 7 isn't particularly early in my house. YANBU

McHappyPants2012 · 04/11/2012 19:35

How old is he?

And how did you sanction him for hitting earlier in the day?

I don't think putting him to bed early is terrible, but if you've spent all day weakly saying 'don't hit your sister' then suddenly gone ballistic and sent him upstairs, you need to amend your behaviour management strategy to one of clear warnings and sanctions.

3plus2 · 04/11/2012 19:35

No nearly sending mine to bed too !

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/11/2012 19:36

YANBU in fact perhaps he was overtired and acting up so might have been more than ready to conk out anyway.

McHappyPants2012 · 04/11/2012 19:36

he has been put on the thinking spot after every time, but today for some reason it hasn't worked

Nah put him to bed he needs some chilling out time ! They know at this age how to press out buttons ! This time if night they are getting tired and bored aswell!

MrsCantSayAnything · 04/11/2012 19:47

Mine went at 7 and they've been good! Ok so they're reading...but it's good for them to go early and chill sometimes.

noblegiraffe · 04/11/2012 19:51

If the usual strategy isn't working, then an escalation is perfectly reasonable. Sending to bed early is fine, if he hasn't been getting on with his sister then getting him away from her sounds like a good idea.
