I have found a ham hock in the freezer and although ive had it out to thaw since 10am, its still rock hard. Can I stick it in a pan of water for a good few hours to boil it from its frozen state?

I would defrost in the microwave first.

You would normally defrost a ham or other joint overnight....so microwave is a good idea at this point!
