Need to access some stuff on dropbox today for work (stupidly hadn't downloaded), and it is being blocked by IFW webfilter. HELP ME!

What is this about and more importanly how can I get what I need...?

Probably need ask your IT people if you're at work, you can't usually easily bypass the work filters...

FredFredGeorge · 23/10/2012 12:28

Is the DropBox website being blocked - or just the service? If you can get to the website you cand download through the site.

If the site is blocked, use a "proxy" service to get to it.

imnotmymum · 23/10/2012 12:28

I have the app on my phone download it now and access!

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:29

Just me at work at home. No IT

Site is blocked. What is a "proxy" service?

OP posts:
FredFredGeorge · 23/10/2012 12:31

It's a proxy service that you connect to, to bypass the filters (more normally used for anonimity, or getting around geographic restrictions.)

Try www.hotspotshield.com/ maybe.

Www.hidemyass.com is another one Grin

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:34

Do you mean install that, get what I need and then uninstall?

OP posts:
Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:35

I haven't installed anything IWF or other.

What happens if I connect to these things?

OP posts:
Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:41

Right. I can access the site via myself, but not via the link sent to me in an email. But I could up until today. What is that about?

OP posts:
GeneHuntsMistress · 23/10/2012 12:43

Do what imnotmymum said - download the app onto your phone and access that way - you will then be able to email the document to yourself to work on.

App available for iPhone and for blackberry

Good luck let us know

ExitPursuedByAaaaaarGhoul · 23/10/2012 12:43

Hully - you need the geeks surely?

GeneHuntsMistress · 23/10/2012 12:45

Xpost

You will need to speak with your IT dept once in work - in the meantime though you can access the document you need today, yes? If not then go via app

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:45

GeneHunts. I downloaded the app on my phone, I went to the email with the link and clicked on it, it still won't let me access the site. What NOw...?

I've posted in geeks too. They are all asleep.

OP posts:
GeneHuntsMistress · 23/10/2012 12:46

Ignore and email - just click on app an all your docs should be there?

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:46

Oh, I can't access the site (only my own account). The info I need is on a dropbox file that I need to get via a link sent to me by email. When I click on the link it says IWF etc.

OP posts:
GeneHuntsMistress · 23/10/2012 12:47

Any email

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:47

The doc I need isn't in my account. It's in the sender's and I can't get it.

OP posts:
GeneHuntsMistress · 23/10/2012 12:48

The app on my phone linked me automatically to my work Dropbox account once I logged onto it with work login details - have u tried that?

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:49

Sadly I don't need my account, I need to be able to access the account sent to me with a link via email. I have been able to access it for the past few days, and didn't download as thought was fine, but today I can't as it says IWF etc.

OP posts:
GeneHuntsMistress · 23/10/2012 12:49

Email sender and ask them to download the file themselves and email to you as attachment? Bypass DV altogether

I have Gene, they can't access it either. Just pray they have it on something else too...poor them are in a meeting all day and sending me messages where possible.

Lunatic, it was fine before tho.

Hullygully · 23/10/2012 12:53

Does anyone know how I can contact stupid dropbox other than email on their site which I can't access....?

OP posts:
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 23/10/2012 12:53

IWF is the Internet Watch Foundation. If it's IWF webfilter it means that whatever the email link went to has been flagged as either child abuse images or criminal obscenity. It will probably be being blocked by your internet service provider so you'll need to contact them.

Meanwhile, you could ask your colleague to re-upload the file to a different file sharing site, or even re-upload it to drop box - it might just be that one link that's blocked.
