Neighbours just complained....again

My neighbours and us do not get on, they complain about everything............

*our shed is ugly
*my cat makes their dog bark
*My baby cried (he was 6 weeks at the time)
*we objected to their builder using our driveway (not shared) without asking us first

The list goes on. Whenever one of my babies is ill or upset in the night she moans (I do not allow them to cry in their rooms as they back on to their bedroom, I always take them in my room), we hear them all the time, never grumble about it, they are a young couple with no kids (well one due next month) so their lives are different to ours and they are up late etc.

Latest complaint...............your cat has had a blackbird. Honestly I could scream. I won't say anything to her about this or anything else, she gets very verbally aggressive and has a very entitled view on life.

But am I being unreasonable to think she's not suited to live in a terraced house or am I a terrible neighbour!

they sound very difficult, complaining about very strange things - a shed??!! Hmm

I suspect next month when their baby arrives, they will feel very embarrassed about complaining when a baby cries. Though if she has a very entitled view, maybe only her baby will be allowed to cry.

I am sure when they have their baby, they will change their tune regarding noise/babies. Wink

I am with her on the blackbird though as it pisses me off when our neighbour's cat caught the ones nesting in our garden.

Who are they complaining to? HA? LL?

Are they listening to their complaints or dismissing them?

YANBU in thinking that someone who objects to a cat catching a bird should not live near people with cats at the very least. Not sure about the rest of it.

BUT MWAH HA HA at them having their own DC very soon!!!!!

They are a bit odd, our shed is a bog standard one, I'm afraid I did say well stop looking over my fence then!

When their baby cries I'm sure that will be ok, I wouldn't dream of moaning (will just smile sweetly and say, gosh its so hard when they cry all night isn't it, when she says did you hear it etc..........well yes I did hear him/her but I mean what sort of person complains a baby crying)

She is BU. I had neighbours like this and they made my life so hard. It won't get better so you have to say something (also let them know you can hear them) and let them know how it feels when their dc is born and crying during the night and you are complaining.

Oh - she sounds like a right pain in the backside! Hopefully having a newborn baby will give her a different view on life, curb her late nights and give her less time to focus on your house, kids, cat etc!!

You are a very normal neighbour!

You're lucky they were only using your drive , my neighbours landscapers had a hosepipe attached to my outside tap and we are on a water meter ! They just couldn't see why I was cross.

Sorry when their baby cries I'm sure that that will be ok by them.

I know how they feel about the blackbird, if she had moaned at me I might have been a bit more sympathetic, but DH cannot stand them and answered 'well that's what cats do!

They complain to us, we both own our properties.

Floralnomad - the neighbour the other side had some work done over summer, I was sitting in my conservatory in my baggy PJ's at 9 mths pregnant, when the workman pulled up the garden fence an wandered in to do some bits he couldn't reach! I did point out he might have knocked first! But we get on well with them neighbours and we had a giggle about it next time I saw them. But using your water Shock

Bobblygussets maybe abusive is too strong but she is highly strung and shouts a lot (not just at us, hear her on the phone arguing all the time)

We bought a caravan and within a month our neighbour complained to site owner that we had a bbq and were outside talking a bit loudly til omg about 10.00pm
The site owner came and talked to us about it...his opinion..I think these people need to have a caravan in the middle of a field somewhere!

Same goes, you live in a house sided by 2 other houses usually with quite thin walls, expect some noise. Expect not to like all of your neighbours taste in garden furniture. That's life. YANBU.

Oh and although tempted will not tell her where to go as she's heavily pregnant, shame she didn't afford me the same courtesy when I was heavily pregnant and she picked an argument with Dh and I (cannot even remember what over).

jjuice - I wonder what they expected, these are all ex council houses, they are good value for 1st time buyers and as such most are inhabited by young families. Not suggesting we shouldn't all be considerate but still!

Our neighbours are in the same vein OP so I sympathise. My DP looks very scary though, so there havent been too many complaints.

But they have complained about the dog barking except it wasnt our dog. And then the people three doors up from them (two from us) got a new dog. And on the first day they were over complaining that it was barking. I havent heard it barking once.

All because their pfb might wake up.

When our baby is born in two weeks we are going to have such fun. They make so much noise its unreal.

Our old neighbours were a nightmare and complained about nonsense nearly every day. It got to the point I was scared to fart in case the complained, it felt couldn't live a normal life as we were worried about setting her off

They complained about some noise from our carpet fitters when we had a new stair carpet fitted

They complained about my DD1's 15 minute piano practice during the summer and we had the patio doors open (she practised at around 4pm, so not late night)

She complained about my dog barking 'all day' once - we went to Lego Land and the dog was at my mum's house for the day

She even reported us to the RSPCA as she'd seen an empty rabbit hutch in our garage, we were being cruel to a rabbit apparently. It was bloody empty. We'd just move the rabbit into a hutch and run combo in the back garden.

The kids laughing in the garden, us laughing in the garden. She would have complained about the birds singing in the sky if there had been someone to listen to.

It was relentless until we moved'.

The thing is, they weren't exactly silent - DIY, music, she was a piano teacher, but to us, it was just day to day noise that everyone makes, they just never seemed to get that if she could hear us, we could hear them

I wish I'd told her to fuck off

I'm feeling nervous now, we have new neighbours moving in and after two sets of nice ones feel our luck could run out.

Actually the domestic bird population os being decimated by cats. So agree with your neighbours there. The rest of it......they are BU.

YANBU, how irritating. Our NDNs are completely renovating their house - they stripped everything back to bare bricks and floorboards - and are working on it all day, every day from 8am until gone 11pm, sawing and drilling and hammering. But they are lovely, have apologised over and over again and have bought us some lovely treats as a thank you for putting up with it. We just feel sorry for them really because they were supposed to have finished last week but are only just putting new floors down and are clearly panicking due to work commitments and having nowhere to live. We are also due a new baby any day now so a bit of give and take.
