To email from friends on holiday plain weird?

A friend of mine is away for half term, I say friend as we have barely seen each other in the last few months and she is away on holiday with her family for half term. In the past three days I have had two long emails, from 'the poolside' going into great detail about the Club Class flight and the hotel and excursions the family have been on, including 'experience of a lifetime everyone should have'

She also says she hopes 'we have managed to get away' This is the same friend who called me at 10pm on a Friday night to ask if I wanted to look after her dog as 'she thought I could do with the money' I politely declined.

What's with this need to email and quite frankly show off? I'd love to hear all about it when she got back, face to face, over a coffee/drink, but could do without the emails!

Would you email people from holiday? I wouldn't! AIBU?

She's just showing off, horrible. As for that phone call! I wouldn't call her a friend!

I'd maybe email my sister or whatever to say 'we're here, having fun, miss you, hope you're alright, see you later,' but nothing more than that!

i go on holiday to get away from everyone and everything at home. tehre is no way i would be composing long emails to send back to friends at home. no way. she must be having a crap time.

I have a friend like this and she is doing my head in. I would like to defriend her for her vile political views but I am not sure how to.

Did she maybe mean to email another friend with the same name as you and your name autofilled and she hasn't noticed?

Which wouldn't be that nice either, but it might be some colleague or something she wants to inpress.

I jave a 'arms length' friend like who sounds similar. I guess it depends on her other attributes as to whether you remain friends, but mine IS lovely deep down, and all her offers of charity and comments about my financial status are well meant. I have had to say something to her though, in a packed pub a few days before Christmas, she gave me a bin bag full of crap stuff and says very loudly "I know things are tough, so maybe you could wrap these for your DC" - WTactualF? We were in the pub with all my dc's peers and parents for a village carol singing and mulled vino evening and I was absolutely mortified.... I had to say "Oh thanks but Father Christmas has it covered".

I do not mind receiving hand me downs at all, another friend and I regular give each other bags of crap stuff for our kids, but there's a knack to it, one that doesn't involve making the receiver feel shit.

Your friend IBVU of course, but don't allow her unhappiness and insecurities, boredom and conscieous acts of 'being thoughtful' piss you off at all. It's really not worth getting GRRRR over (well not for too long anyway, just laugh about it when the rage at her lack of tact subsides.
